Riviera Roadsite Motel

Sleepless in Joplin. Extremely disappointed with the gentlemen managing/running the motel in the evenings. I had a trip planned to Joplin and needed a 2 bed room for the evening and given the circumstances in Joplin at the time (tornado and many without housing as well as the volunteers in the area helping clean up) rooms that weren't a arm and a leg were scarce. I prefer non-chain establishments and gave them a call early in the day and the lady said she would hold a room, but they didn't take reservations. I told them the expected arrival time figured I was all set. When I arrive I tell the gentlemen I had called earlier and needed a 2 bed room. He fumbled around on the desk stating he was not aware of any reservation or promise while I keep asking if they had any vacancies. He said they were not full, so I ask the obvious question of well then does it really matter? I'd like two bed room please. He asked if I smoked, and I said yes, but my traveling companion doesn't so I prefer non-smoking, but will take whatever they have available but obviously had no intention of smoking in a non-smoking room. He said he couldn't give me a room as I had said I was a smoker and he was forbidden from giving me a room for the night because of that. The whole situation was not handled in a professional manner and he seemed to be disinterested in my business from the start and offered no sort of apology. I had such high hopes for a nice older motel with such a cool sign and location. Oh well, their loss and thank you for wasting my time.…
