HORRIBLE! NOT Mexican--But funnel cake without the sugar

by CharlottaMM

I grew up on Mex food and have eaten it all across country for over 50 YEARS. Went here on business trip to St. Joe and was eager to try. Everything you order is wrapped in what amounts to a thick floury funnel cake. Ordered an enchilada expecting soft corn tortilla, lots of meat and tasty sauce; got a rectangular deep fried plank with NO sauce of any kind and meat paste so scanty I couldn't even eat the middle out of the thing. By time I was finished (didn't take long!) I left behind a huge plate and basket of thick greasy funnelcake remnants and stayed hungry. Don't waste your money on this awful food. Just go buy a funnel cake. (I was forced to leave one star in order to post my rating, but truly it was a zero.)

  • Pros: Absolutely none
  • Cons: NO corn tortillas at all. Just THICK, greasy flour ones.

This Is Not Mexican!

by unccgold

I visited Barbosa's East on February 13, 2008 and found out the hard way that what I thought was suppose to be Mexican food was something completely different. They do not use any corn products. First, you have to purchase the chips and salsa, which do not come free like most Mexican restaurants. Second, the chips are flour that have been fried crisp. Third, I ordered the #4 Jose Combination Dinner and I'm not sure what kind of cheese they use, but it tasted like Velveeta. Fourth, the enchilada sauce used was just chili sauce. Fifth, the avocado dip did have avocados in it, but it was diluted with sour cream. Sixth, who puts Parmesan cheese on top of a tostada? Lastly, I was told that the cooks do not consider this food mexican, but actually disguised American food.

Really, do not waste your money eating at this establishment.

POOR cafeteria food

by jesuscrispy

The place was filled with smoke from the kitchen, your clothes smelled like burning oil when you went back to work.

The food tasted a day old precooked.

They used melted velveta cheese on everything.

They don't even have corn tortillas

They don't even have a green sauce

Their red chile sauce is more like stewed tomatoes straight outta the can!

WHAT IS MEXICAN ABOUT THIS PLACE?

BLAND BLAND BLAND

Some people swear by Barbosas -- I swear at it!

  • Pros: nice floor, nice waitress, thats all
  • Cons: , everything velveeta, nothing mexican!
