Clean, Comfy, and Convenient. We travel to Rochester at least once annually, and have never been "burned" by staying at the Kahler. Clean, comfortable, and convenient to Mayo. Not the fanciest, but a good value.
Good Value. Had the opportunity to visit Rochester and stayed in the Kahler Grand Hotel. There is a lot of history in this old girl. Rooms were average, but clean well kept. They have a nice restaurant, bar and martini lounge. Great location with a lot to do right in the neighborhood. Staff was friendly. We paid about $100 a night and thought it was a good value.
Great Service!. I have stayed at the Kahler Grand Hotel now three times in three years when I get my annual kidney transplant annual evaluation at May Clinic. The Kahler Grand is hospitable, convienient and centrally located for all my doctors' and clinics' appointments. Their staff and bellmen are caring and considerate very willing to assist me with getting to and from the hotel. I need their assistance because I use a wheelchair to get about. I recommend Kahler for any out of town guests needing affordable rooms with great service and good restaurants all in one location.
Peaceful. This is an old hotel that has been carefully refurbished and maintained. You barely hear the central air system running which is so peaceful. It is convenient to the Mayo Clinic w/o going outside. There are shops also accessible inside or outside. I have stayed there on three occasions and never had a bad experience. The restaurants are good and there is a variety to choose from.
Perfect for me. When I first saw the reviews here I was thinking that if I decided to stay here it would be specifically for the chance to see how bad it was for myself... a fun adventure. I was thinking that perhaps this wasn't such a smart idea as I arrived from a 10:30 pm flight and had a 6 am appointment the next day. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel was perfectly suited to my needs. The location was beyond excellent if you are a patient at Mayo Clinic. The rooms were perfectly clean, comfy, and adequate, although the bathrooms are from the 70/80s and do have a hospital vibe. That said, I kind of liked the bathrooms....they had a unique retro vibe. Cool. And yes, the fridge and microwave were older, but they worked fine, no problems. The room overall was much nicer than I expected with 2 huge windows. The size was perfect for one person. I do suggest not taking a room that faces the courtyard area if you are a light sleeper. As long as you can afford to stay in any of the regular or deluxe (NOT economy) rooms, you should be OK. It was exactly what I was needing for a Mayo visit and I am more than happy to return.
Pleasantly surprised. I was traveling alone and chose to stay close to Mayo Clinic. Despite reading some bad reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by my nice lower-priced room. The staff was really helpful and the food was good at both restaurants inside of the hotel. The pool and exercise area was very nice even with the walk up the last flight of stairs. It was just so nice to be able to go back to my room between appointments.
I'll return. Attending Mayo Clinic, location is excellent. Nancy at front desk was extremely helpful and accommodating when I had to extend my stay at the last minute. Staff on the floors were extremely friendly and efficient. This will be the only hotel I'll return to when I visit Rochester!
DO not stay anywhere else!!. If going to the Kahler for the Mayo Clinic, do not stay anywhere else. You can be from your room to your appointment within 10 minutes within going out in the weather. I found the staff friendly and helpful, responding quickly to any needs. The economy queen room we stayed in was adequate and QUIET. The hotel is renovating the rooms, so I am sure they will be more modern at a future date. The breakfast buffet had a large variety including fresh raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. And the parking is free!
Fast friendly service.
The good:
Location
Staff
Room service-was able to cater to my severe food allergies and Celiac Disease, fast friendly service
The building itself-nice historic venue, nice shops, nice to walk around and explore
Clean-housekeeping was always calling to see if I needed anything if the DND sign was up, which I though was nice, but might annoy some people who are ill and trying to sleep.
Computer facilities and office equipment on site.
Pool and gym
Laundry
Decor-The hallways looked straight out the Stephen King's The Shining, but I like that sort of look. Very grand historic hotel indeed. Be sure to check out the book in your suite that outlines the history of the hotel
Great location!. Business travel to Mayo Clinic could not have been easier. Shuttle to and from airport straight to hotel; hotel was located near restaurants and mall. Great location!
