Good Food and Excellent Service.
On the way to Chicago, I visited this restaurant based on the recommendation of my friend who previously worked in Chelsea, MI. We skipped the appetizers and went straight to soup, which was a little fishy but still pretty nice.
I ordered a daily special risotto with saffron cream sauce. It had lobster, shrimp, and scallops in it; all of them were pretty good, especially the scallops. But the best part was the risotto, perfectly cooked and accompanied with the right sauce. Grilled chicken fettucine with red bell pepper cream sauce was also a good selection. Fettucine was cooked aldente and the sauce was great, and the chicken wasn't even the issue anymore. The chicken stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and pancetta was an interesting and tasted delicious.
The only thing we were disappointed about was the steak. We ordered ribeye, and though it was an okay dish, compared to the other dish it was a disappointment, because the others were so good. I recommend the pasta dish or seafood; the majority of the menu are anyway. I am considering visiting this restaurant everytime I drive from Michigan to Chicago. Also our waitress was very attentive and kind, which was the last pinch to move this to a higly recommended category instead of just recommended.
Simply perfect. They don't take reservations. There, I got the one negative out of the way. Everything else is perfect, from the decor, to the location, to the attentive and educated service. The food is fantastic. The seafood and pastas are outstanding. The appetizers are inventive, tasty, and original. The desserts are decadent, lush, delicious. Even the coffee tastes great. Go, enjoy, write me a thank you note.
Wonderful. We regularly drive 80 miles for dinner at the Common Grill. The pasta is always very flavorful, the fish incredible and fresh and the service is very attentive. Continues to be my Michigan favorite.
Tremendously Good Food. There's too much that's right about this restaurant. The food is fabulous. Even though I've heard the meat dishes are pretty good, I haven't gotten over how good the seafood is. The chilean seabass and paella is unbelievable. And, the service is so consistent, you'd think they were robots. There are only two negative things to say about Common Grill. One, it's really hard to talk there because they have wooden floors and it's very loud there. Two, it's in Chelsea, so it's a bit of a haul, even for me, living in Ann Arbor.
