In Short – Groups and couples sit in scarlet velvet chairs and candlelight sharing Indian dishes in this small, dark, temple-like restaurant. The walls are decorated with stained glass, scarlet curtains and beautiful paintings of Hindu deity. The menu features extensive lamb, chicken and seafood offerings, including Tandoori items (grilled in a clay oven over charcoal.) Also, choose from vegetarian items, rice specialties and homemade breads.
Still my favorite Indian Restaurant, after 20 plus years!

I recently returned to Berkley after living in Arizona for several years, and found my old favorite restaurant, is still my favorite. The atmosphere is so peaceful; it's like being in a temple. The food is fresh, prepared as luscious as always, and the portions are still so generous that I have to take home a doggie bag! One of my favorites is the Chicken Madras, although everything of the menu is a comfort food. I would gladly pay much more for it.
After serving our communities for so long, I hope with the help of their loyal and understanding customers, they will survive our present devastating economic conditions and continue to offer us the same excellent service they have for so many years. I admire their creativity in how they have cut some corners in order to keep costs down. Hopefully one day they may be able to afford to renew their liquor license, and spruce up the outside. They may have had to cut some corners, but it is to their credit that they haven't cut on the quality or quantity of the food, or their warm and friendly service. That's good enough for me!!!
- Pros: Ambience, Quality and Quantity of food, Service, Low Prices, Parking
- Cons: None at all

This place used to have great reviews. I moved to the area (a couple miles from the restaurant) about 7 years ago. Something changed; before I moved here, the food was great! But for the past 5-6 years, this place has become a disaster.
I once ordered samosas, and for the price (seems like around $8) i expected something decent. I was wrong; what I did receive was an order of two tiny little pieces of baked pastry, with about 3 peas and some spiced potato pieces inside. For $8, i essentially ended up with 2-2" pieces of bread.
Order Chicken Madras, and that was disappointing as well. A few small chunks chicken, and a lot of curry sauce. At least the chicken was white meat.
This is horrible! The nearest Indian restaurants are about 20 mins away, either in Troy/Rochester or Southfield. I will not waste my money at Passage to India again, but a HUGE part of me wishes they didn't go down the tube! GRRRR...
Save your money! This place is expensive, and not worth it!
- Pros: Lots of parking
- Cons: Get very little food of mediocre quality, for a lot of money.
Filthy

When we first entered the building, we noticed the lights were kind of dim. It took me just a few minutes to realize why: it was filthy! Table linens were covered with paper place mates to hide food stains that have not even been washed. Baby high chair has probably never seen any wiping... Bread they served had a lot of charcoal (mixed into it. You might usually see this stuff on the bottom of a loaf but this one definately was mixed in. Food tasted good but was very greasy. Don't think I will be coming back.
