What People Are Saying About Louis' Pizza

In Short – There's nothing fancy about this beloved pizza palace. The foyer is festooned with a garland of empty Chianti bottles, an indicator of the good time to come. Tiny plastic-covered tables are shoved together, so conversation flows among the diners, mostly families looking for a night out. The menu is full of reasonably priced Italian favorites, but most choose the antipasto salad, Loui's crusty pizza and a glass of red wine for toasting.
What a surprise - Best Pizza I've Had.

I read some of the reviews of 'bad service' etc. so I was expecting rude service with an ok pizza. Nope.
The waitress greeted me within 1 minute of walking in. I placed an order to go: a small pizza.
Got home, took 3 bites and had to create an account here just to let you know it's great pizza!
I've tried pizza around the world (really) and I can not recall one that tasted in any way better than this.
If you're in the area, check it out. Not for dieters.
Easily the best pizza I've had in Michigan - sorry Pizza Papalis and the rest. Louis' is the best!

Not what it once was, but have no fear!!!!

Once upon a time this was the place to go for detroit style Pizza, but no more. The service is awful. Very hit or miss. you could get served with either mediocre service, or spend hours there being totally ignored while having to send your food back at least once. How the mighty have fallen. BUT THERE IS HOPE!!!!!
Shield's pizza and Buddy's pizza both still make great pizza, and to anyone that feels like their loyaties to Louie would be comprimised by going there I say NUTS!
Louie started out at buddy's down by outer drive, then moved around the corner to shields, taking his recipe with him, before starting his own place over on van dyke.
For another great detroit style deep dish pizza, try the Green Lantern at 12 mile and JohnR
- Pros: History

Changed for the worst

I moved to Chicago a few years ago and even though Chicago is known for their great pizza there was nothing like Louie's from Detroit! Igrew up eating there with my family. So when I came back with my wife and her family I had to bring them to this place that I had talked about for years!!! Everyone was super excited especially me!! Much to my surprise it was nothing like I remembered!! It took them ten minutes to even greet our table and another ten minutes to get our drinks. Our waitress was more interested in the table of guys in the middle of the room!! It was like she wasn't even working but that she was partying along with the loud group. The pizza came and was very dry with no sauce on it. We sent it back and no one came over to even appologize for our inconvience. About two and a half hours later we finally headed out of there very upset and I was embarrassed. I had talked this place up so much and it was nothing like I had said. To top it all off when we were leaving the lady at the front of the restaurant gave us a card and told us to vote them number one in Detroit. Maybe we will vote them the number one restaurant for a big disappointment. I think next time we will just be going to Buddy's pizza. At least I know they will be concerned with our satisfaction!
- Pros: Salad is good
- Cons: Horrible waitstaff
