Almost every hotel can boast being historic on the Vineyard, but the Thorncroft Inn, built in 1908, incorporates that old-fashioned vibe with modern elements to make this one of the most sought-after spots for romance. The three buildings that make up the inn--the main house, the carriage house and a private cottage--are right past the shops and restaurants in the lovely and quiet Vineyard Haven.

The Details
Each of the 14 rooms are elegantly appointed with antique furniture--four-poster beds, lace and Colonial chairs. Many have wood-burning fireplaces, two-person whirlpools or hot tubs. Mornings start with a homemade breakfast in the cozy dining room, or opt to have breakfast in bed. Afternoon tea and pastries are also served in-room or in the dining room. The private cottage is by far the best room with its own deck, hammock, garage and lots of space. The ferry dock is within walking distance.
