An Island experience.
This is a great, well established island gem. The food is basic, nothing fancy but you get what expect. The pricing is typical island, more than you would pay else where, but the atmosphere and general overall experience is worth the money. While as a local I can't afford to come here weekly, it is certainly somewhere I would take visitors to get a great taste of fresh seafood, a wonderful view and a homey feeling.
The Vineyard's favorite restaurant serves up a seafood extravaganza.. The Scene Home Port is so popular that when owner Will Holtham threatened to sell out a few years ago, locals kicked up such a fuss that he changed his mind. The large, perennially packed dining room (there's plenty of outdoor seating, too) feels like a classic fish shack, with its ruddy wood fittings and wall covered in beautifully mounted fish. The nearby waterfront, packed with fishing boats, offers an atmospheric vista.
The Food Prices seem high until you realize that all menu options include a salad, appetizer, a main course, beverage and dessert. In other words, don't come here for a light meal. Needless to say, seafood dominates, although meat dishes are available. The preparation and presentation are simple and straightforward, and although the food is not exactly sparkling, if your idea of heaven is putting on a bib and pulling a giant lobster apart, you'll be very happy.
