Best Italian North of the North End
by Allstar201297
Typically I would rate a great place with all five stars but my practice is to save the big wazoo rating for the fancy diningrooms in town. HOWEVER, Bob's is totally a five star foodie kinda hot spot. I was amazed at how big the subs and dinners were not once, but three and four visits later... and a great value. There is no comparing the Steak & Cheese sub or the Chicken Parm. And the fresh pasta take-out makes me want to swing on by off the 93 every time I'm passing through. This place is always busy so call ahead to order if you can decide in advance, the menu is pretty large so it's not easy! And the deli / prepared foods make you want to stock the fridge. Next time I grill I'm going for the homemade Italian Sausage, more on that later!
Shame on Bob's
by susan cross
Bob's has gone so down hill and has overpriced itself.
We were charged $8.95 for burnt chicken fingers, reheated fries and a warm salad. Another night the chicken broccoli was the best I have ever had. Next time ordered the Seafood and there was nothing to it. We moved here four years ago and thought it was great to have such an awesome place to stop on the way home. We don't go anymore.
The Perfect Neightborhood Food Store

I've always been in love with Bob's Italian Foods in South Medford. It feels like one of those little markets you might find on a movie set for a flick that takes place in Brooklyn from long ago, where everyone knows everyone else and nearly every kind of Italian food item can be found on their shelves and behind the counters.
The pastas are outstanding at Bob's (the tortellinis may be my favorite of them all) and the sandwiches are better than any you'll find in your everyday generic sub shop. And the best time to go to Bob's? Right around Christmas, especially when it's snowing out. The feel of walking into the warm, well-lit store on a cold, crisp day to get some ziti, olives, pesto, or cheese is something you won't soon forget.
- Pros: excellent pasta, great sandwiches
- Cons: some items can be a little expensive
Tasty sandwiches and Excellent Variety of Italian Foods
by BobSG
My wife and I have been regular customers at Bob's, most of the time bringing home a filling meal/sandwich after working all day. The one drawback is their saute station. It has been hit or miss with their cream based sauces, many times being on the watery side, despite their use of heavy cream and fresh cheese. The proper use of a slurry (thickening agent) would do wonders so the sauce will set up and not run all over the place.
- Pros: Great sandwiches, subs and most meals
- Cons: Saute station needs work
Great Sandwiches - expensive catered trays
by Andrea Capone
Let me first say that Bob's has a fantastic reputation. People come from miles around to get their subs and I agree that they are fantastic!
However, I was disapointed with their catering. We ordered catered trays from Bobs for a family party. The food was very tasty and the decorative trays made for a nice presentation. However, the calzone tray was cold (not what were expecting.) They didn't include grated cheese for the pasta - this was probably an oversight. The chicken & ziti was hot and flavorful but didn't wow me. Overall, I thought we overpaid for what we received.
I will call them again for subs and deli platters but I won't call them for catering trays.
- Pros: Great Sandwiches
- Cons: Expensive catered trays
