Kelly's diner is perhaps the last great Local Establishment in Ball Square..They Closed Mitchell's Worldy Wings and countless other Great Dinning places in and around Ball square to cater to the Newcomers...If your new in town and want a little taste of Actual local Bostonian Dinning Kelly's is the place to go,I have been Going there since I was a little kid for the better part of 25 years and not much has changed...The only other two places I would recommend in Somerville that have the same feel is Leone's for pizza further down broadway and Victor's Deli (just a few steps away from Kelly's)....If your the stereotypical Newcomer (college Student or Yuppie) please stay away from Kelly's you will not have a good Experience,if you new to the boston area and want to get a feel for the city that used to exist and maybe a little feel of home Kelly's is the place for you....
Stick to the omelettes. I have only been there twice. The service is ok. The food is greasy, yet edible. But, the last time I went my husband's steak was still really bloody even though he ordered it well done. I know it is a diner and not a steak house, but he could not even eat it, and he is ok with a some red/pink in his steak. I would suggest sticking to the omelettes.
The Diner.
Oh MY!! the Diner looks incredible, just like it did the first day it arrived in Delaware back in 1952. My daddy was the original and first owner. It was called "Earl's Diner" way back then. It is the REAL THING, if you are looking for the original diner experience, Kelly's is it.. I would like to visit the new owners. I know there have been many since my Mother sold it but now it is back in business.. I could never find out where it went until I saw Food Network last nite (9/17/07)....I cried because the memories it holds are priceless...
Kelly's is 7 hours from me here in New Jersey but I am going and hopefully I get to meet the new owners.

Great Diner.
A great place to grab a greasy brunch.
You can seat yourself at the counter or wait for a booth. Great portions for the price. And shockingly good service (the experienced wait staff rarely have to write things down and have always got more order correct.
Great omelets -. Very nice place for breakfast. Especially omelets. Very family friendly. A relief from the chain restaurants.
Vintage diner environs and a straightforward breakfast menu keep this Somerville eatery chugging along..
In Short
Upon entering Kelly's, hungry patrons encounter old-school relics like a life-sized statue of James Dean, pink Formica counters and Naugahyde stools. Temptations can be found in the pie cases and the lengthy breakfast menu (blueberry pancakes, eggs Benedict). Lunchtime patrons stick to burgers and crispy fries; and ice cream is available at all times for those with a sweet tooth.
SERVICE.
THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. IF YOU ARE IN A HURRY DON'T EAT HERE. WAITRESSES
ARE OLDER WOMAN THAT CAN'T REMEMEBER TO BRING OVER THINGS YOU NEED EVEN
THOUGH YOU ALREADY ASKED THEM ONCE, TWICE AND YOU STILL DON'T HAVE IT.
PARKING IS LIMITED UNLESS YOU ARE A SOMERVILLE RESIDENT
Great place, great food!!. Fresh roast beef. Big servings! Wonderful atmosphere. I love the fish tank! Plenty of parking, ALWAYS. Thinking about it makes me hungry, I'm on my way!
Wonderful Breakfast!!!.
Amazing food! Looks like an old-fashioned diner.
However, they only accept cash.
Best Catch In Town. Scrambled eggs done to perfection - lightly moist, not over cooked; three thick cuts of bacon; endless coffee with excellent service; home fries crispy brown.
