The Best

I been to almost every thai restaurant in the cambridge/somerville area and this is my absolute favorite. I can't say engough good things about it, and the prices are great too. I've eaten at Thai places twice as expensive and they don't compare to the Great Thai Chef.

best thai around!

I have tried Thai far and wide and still keep coming back to Great Thai Chef. My husband and I both think they have some of the best (if not the best) Thai food in Boston. Some Thai friends of ours recommended it initially and we are now regulars even though we no longer live around the corner (and we happily drive past many good thai restaurants on the way). The food is fresh and delicious. Our favorites are: golden crowns with a sweet, yummy sauce, pad Thai, pad see you, drunken chicken, tom yum soup (made with their hot and sour soup which is fab), and pineapple chicken curry (I can't remember the name). Lunch is cheap at around $7 for a big helping, and dinner is around $10-15. The interior is nice -- not great, but nice-- and the service friendly. We both highly recommend it!

  • Cons: ambience nice but not amazing, service can sometimes be a little slow (but friendly)

worst Thai food ever

The food here is bland and tasteless. I've had Thai food in different cities and I've taken a Thai cooking class. This is the worst I've ever had.

It's too bad, because I live in the neighborhood and would like to support the local restaurants. If you find yourself in Union Square, go to one of other restaurants.

I've had better tasting thai food at more expensive places but GTC offers GOOD Thai food for very affordable prices. THe atmosphere is quiet and romantic and the service is unbeatable. The wait staff are very friendly and attentive.

I love to take friends here.
