36.077461 -86.978120 View WebsiteMy husband and i joined "Boost FitClub" in September with "Joey" after speaking with John (the owner). We had choices between the monthly fees and to prepay which would save us a total of 225 dollars per year. We knew we would be moving and expressed our concern to both John and Joey about this. Joey wrote out a sheet with our "Choices" that show the breakdown and savings, beside the options he wrote "20+ miles $75.00 cancellation". My husband is an accountant, and was very worried that we would be pre paying for a service that we knew we would not see to the contracts end. After the reassurance that we would be covered we signed on. My husband is moving and our kids and i are following in the next month.. we submitted our cancelation and received three snarky emails from a general email account. After going up to the location and asking for Joey, then waiting.. and waiting and waiting..then calling several times i was finally able to reach Joey, he remembered me and the conversation we had with him on the night we joined. The only part he didn't remember was the part that sold us, the refund. After speaking with him he informed me that he would be speaking with John about this and assured me that he "would go to bat for us". Tonight 01-30-13 i received a call from Joey saying "Sorry, all we can do is not charge a fee for cancelation and you can give the rest of the time to a friend or family member" This is unacceptable and i informed Joey, we aren't from here so rolling this over is not an option..and this was not a favor for us... We simply ask for a refund on the portion we will not be using, with this gym.
great personal attention.
I'm not a big reviewer but I had to put in my 2 cents after reading the "bad experience" review because that does not sound at all like the gym I joined. I don't know who he dealt with but everyone I have come across in the five months I've been there has been helpful. Granted I paid for some personal training sessions, but even the people "behind the counter" have surprised me by greeting me with my name. I have been there at many different times; morning, midday and evening, and even when it's more crowded, there are always cardio machines available.
I have a lot of weight to loose (over 100) which seems like a daunting task, but let me just say - Tarik is amazing! I have had several trainers in the past and he is the best. In terms of the the food aspect, you can immediately tell he is passionate about helping people, educated in what works and what doesn't work & why, & is great at breaking it down into small steps to make gradual changes. (or faster if you have less to loose!)
In terms of the work out, he is the best at altering each exercise to take into consideration the extra weight on my joints. This is where he excels in my personal experience. Other trainers have either just pushed me (and I will push myself but don't want to injure myself!) or have been so easy on me it's not very effective. He definitely pushes me but I see him with other clients doing similar exercises so I can see how he adjusts them for each of us.
As for the whooping & hollering trainers some reviewers have mentioned, I'm not sure who that would be... it's a positive environment but I've rarely heard yelling "Biggest Looser" style, only the occasional "yeah!" or something for encouragement. (Maybe in the classes? which i will add in later - & they do have female teachers, btw. but i've been around during classes & have never heard yelling). I've seen all types with trainers; get-in-shapers like me & already-in-great shapers (males & females) that are training intensely, sometimes for a specific event.
I suggest you go look & see for yourself. Talk to the people there - you will be impressed.
Bad experience. When I first went there it was in the middle of the day and there were not many people there. I signed up for the 3 year contract and when I started attending as a member there were never any treadmills or elipticals available. When I complained I was told I needed to come at a different time which was not possible. One day I had some questions about some of the weight machines and was told I would have to pay for one of the staff to go over a program for me but pointed to one of the other members (not an employee) and said I could ask him because he helped a lot of people. Last year I had to file bankruptcy as I was self employed and when the economy tanked so did my business. I listed Boost Fit as one of the debtors I owed ($226). They say they have to record of it and said if I did not pay immediately I would be turned over to a collection agency. In the meantime I am out of work because I had both knees replaced and now found out I have a possible tumor on my spine. They stand firm that if the money is not received in one week I will be turned over to collections. If you are looking for a place where they care about their customers this is not the place for you.
Nice Small Gym...Lots of Gay Guys!!.
And that's a compliment! Not sure why, but this has become the "it" gym for a lot of gay men in west Nashville. Not really a "muscle guy" type of place, but has a sweet vibe.
A bit cramped, but decent enough.
A Gym with a Support System.
I love this place. It's as easy as that.
One of the things I like most is that this is not a gym where you will feel ostracized if you are not someone who is already in shape just coming in for a good workout. Classes and equipment cater to everyone's needs, whether it's weight loss or general fitness. The people who work there know you and are warm and welcoming.
I wouldn't say there's a one-size-fits-all approach to training, either. You set your goal, whether it's athletic or weight-loss oriented, for example. Mine was weight-loss and with that I gained nutritional knowledge and plan based on protein/carb/fat ratios more than calories, instruction on machine use (though if you're not training and you're not sure none of the trainers would begrudge you a quick demo to make sure you're doing it right!), a strength training regimen based around my limitations, a cardio goal to meet for each week, a metabolic assessment and an awareness of my target heart rate zone for fat burn cardio vs high intensity, enough knowledge to continue working toward my goal on my own once training was over, AND an understanding of what my general fitness and maintenance should look like once I've reached my goal weight.
I also think it's great that even though Jon is no longer my trainer, I can still text him with a question I might have about what choice to make while eating out at a restaurant or anything like that. I know he does the same for others but I never felt like I wasn't the priority when it was my time to train with him, and now that I'm not training I don't feel any less comfortable, appreciated or supported. I also know that I'm not the only one who notices when I'm going through a rough patch, have started slacking, or am not making it to the gym because life is getting in the way. It's important for me to feel like I'm being held accountable in some way, but it's not a guilt trip, it just helps to know that someone else cares instead of just wanting my money regardless of whether I'm getting the most out of it. And when I get back to it or keep on trucking despite graduate school insanity or an injury, they're sincerely glad to see me.
Also, did I mention the rates are great??
More of A Weight Loss Center than A Gym.
If you're looking for a place that focuses on Boot Camps, Lose 30 Pounds in 30 Days!! promotions, and weight loss as opposed to fitness, this is the place for you.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the clapping, hooting, and hollering trainers (think Biggest Loser) gets to be a bit much if you're there to, you know, work out. I would agree with others who have pointed out that these so-called trainers seem to be less concerned about their clients than they are with their own image.
If you want a serious fitness trainer, you might want to look elsewhere....These guys (no female trainers...boo!) actually check their Blackberrys incessantly WHILE "training" clients. Also would agree that they have a one-size-fits-all approach for clients regardless of age, shape, or weight.
Nashville's Best Gym.
For years and years I was a lazy college student. Over weight, lazy, and content. One day I woke up and wanted to change but didn't know where/who to turn to. That's when a friend introduced me to Tarik and the rest of the team at Boost.
When they say "It's not a membership, it's a lifestyle..." they couldn't have put it more perfectly. The knowledge I was given in the first week was vastly superior to everything I was taught all through college. And as the weeks went by I had a whole new outlook on fitness AND FOOD.
He changed my life. 11 months and -20% BMI later I am happier, healthier, and more motivated in life. Whether it be at work, the gym, or at the bars. My confidence in myself has grown, as well as the confidence I see in others. Because if I could do it anyone can.
I highly recommend Boost for those who haven't been satisfyied with other gyms or trainers. And even more recommended to those who don't have a clue where to start or feel uncomfortable. The amount of support you get from the entire team is amazing. You will be instructed from start to finish and held accountable for it.
Life Changing, period.
Unbelievable Service and Value.
I have had memberships to gyms in 3 states for the last 12 years, and can honestly say that this is the first gym that made me feel at home each and everytime I arrive. The staff here not only knows my name, but my preferences in music and refreshments, as well as what is going on in my life. I choose to buy the bulk membership packages, which make it very affordable, and with the assortment of classes that I personally take, the value is through the roof!
As a true believer in customer service, Boost FitClub is the only gym I will stand behind!
Best club in town!. I just shopped many clubs in area getting ready for new year and Boost FitClub was easily ther best choice for me. Very affordable rate options, not too crowded, several support systems in place to lead healthier lifestyle. like the smoothie bar and trainers are very helpful. Staff knows me by name and makes me feel welcome everyday I come in. Very comfortable atmosphere with people who really care about the place and their members.
I have lost 30 lbs and kept it off!. I love this place. Peolpe know me and they are happy to see me. I workout with Tarik (one of the owners)and have lost over 30 pounds! We set goals together that were realistic. They taught me how to not only eat at home better, but how to order. I can live the rest of my life eating this way. I have completely changed. I am more confident, and feel like I'm 18!!! I can't say enough. The place is fun, the people are great and they have great parking. Dawn makes the best smoothies in town. I don't know where you are in life, but if you are like me, you probably could live healthier, lose a few pounds, and surround yourself around great people. I highly recommend you to try this place.
