Great views/location but pricey and inflexible
by momay at Citysearch
We go to Hawthorne By the Sea 3-4 times a year. The food is always excellent, but they are not good about substitutions. If you want a baked potato instead of frites with the sirloin, you are charged the extra. Based on the beautiful views and location, the restaurant should be crowded all the time, but due to the high prices and somewhat inflexible management, it amazes me it remains open. We have never had to wait or make a reservation. We have also dined there with large groups for special birthdays and Thanksgiving. We return because of the positives but would love to see the prices a little lower and a 'upgrade' in management philosophy- bring it into the 21st century!
- Pros: Waitstaff Service, Food Quality
- Cons: Restaurant Management, Price
A Wonderful Experience

We've dined at the Hawthorne By-The-Sea over the years and loved the location and ambience. Since it's been redone, I think it's spectacular. Seated in a corner booth with a view of the Atlantic and Boston Skyline was so relaxing. The food and the service were the best I've experienced in a long time. It was well worth every penny. We weren't rushed, and thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience.
- Pros: convenient parking, fabulous views, great service
