Editorial Review for Little Dom's – by Martha Burr & Tara de Lis

In Short
The guys behind Dominick's and the 101 Coffee Shop have brought gussied-up Italian-American dishes to the longtime Belle Epoque space. Although the food is different, the colorful crowd is much the same: Handsome guys straight off the pages of GQ; aging, cape-clad goths in bowler hats and artsy 30-something marketing mavens. The space itself is parlor-esque, with a restored antique wood bar that gleams beneath vintage stained-glass windows and warm red leather booths. The menu incorporates seasonal, local produce in classic favorites like fried artichokes with shrimp and Neapolitan wood-fire pizza, plus inventive additions such as expertly cooked blue nose bass and Parmesan-y chickpea fries.

Hits: The menu is small and focused, resulting in simple but elegant dishes that are a big step up from the quality of food at the original location. Servers know the menu and give good advice on details and portion sizes.

Misses: The restaurant is small, so reservations fill up fast for weekends and also for same-day tables, even on Monday nights. Because the bar accommodates walk-ins for dinner, it's not an ideal place to go for just a glass of wine.

Insider Tips

Parking

The only trick to parking here is patience. There's no valet, so street parking is your only option. The good news is that this is a neighborhood crowd, so many come on foot.

Where to Sit

The booths along the wall in the main dining room provide the best vantage point for intimate groups. The booths is the bar are fun for parties of four or more who want to be near the action.

What to Drink

The Italian-centric wine list offers traditional and more eclectic red and white selections from boutique vintners. The restaurant is in the process of applying for a full liquor license.

drove past the other day and didn't realize they were open for breakfast. great food, low key atmosphere and nice outside tables. highly recommend if you want to avoid the cheesy crowds at some other spots around town.

Pros: low key, nice outside tables, better than normal breakfast menus

Best kept secret -Little Dom's serves breakfast and lunch. I always wished Dominick's had lunch, so this is exciting! They have all the yummy lunch stuff like a fantastic tuna melt, their gooey burger and a delicious cacio e pepe pasta, but their breakfast rocks. i went yesterday and they have a breakfast pizza with egg and homemade sausage that i could eat by myself. they also have some tasty breakfast drinks that are great for hair of the dog or a little lunchtime buzz. nice to know these guys have another breakfast spot besides the 101 and also nice to know where all the cute guys on the east side are hanging out.

Pros: avoid the cheesy crowds of hollywood; cheap, good, beyond the usual egg white omelets

Cons: i wish i lived closer
