Todd and Hillsboro Village Have Never Disappointed Me!!.
I have known Todd Burr on a personal and professional level for several years. Todd operates and manages one of the most honest and ethical businesses in Nashville. I have sent several of my friends, family and associates to Hillsboro Village Auto Service for repairs and maintenance and I have never heard anything but positive feedback.
Todd and his staff go out of their way to make certain that all work and repairs are done correctly and with quality parts. They also stand behind their work with a 12 month warranty on all work performed.
Trust worthy auto shops are hard to find and this is one of the most honest auto repair operations in Nashville. I completely trust Todd and Brent in their repair recommendations.
Todd, Brent and the crew are the BEST! Thanks!.
Todd and his staff have taken care of our cars for years. They listen carefully, troubleshoot until they find the problem and then they fix what's broken. They're conscientious and resourceful about caring for our cars and they try to save us money when they can. I've recommended them to lots of neighbors who've been very happy with service. I wouldn't go anywhere else!
Thanks, Todd!
Owner Response.
"Used to be reliable...."
We tested the starter and alternator--the starter was dragging and the alternator was testing good. We don't replace parts unless we can verify they are malfunctioning or not functioning at all. If the alternator is bad and we can verify then it is covered under our 4 yr/48,000 mile warranty (parts and labor). I do have a question though, did the other technician verify the starter was bad before he/she replaced it so that you felt good about the repair?? It is possible that you have more than one problem---alternator could be malfunctioning on an intermittent basis and did not show up when we tested. Please bring it in for us to retest.

Very Helpful!. I had a great experience with Good Neighbor. I have a 1997 Saturn 5-speed. It came to where it wasn't drivable because it would not shift. I got it to one auto shop and was told that the shifter cables needed to be replaced and that it would cost over $1000, which is way out of my budget. I called around to a few shops describing my problem and was told around the same pricing from each. When I called Good Neighbor they asked me to come in so they could take a look at it. After they checked it out, I was told that they would be able to repair the part instead of replacing it, which definitely cut the cost to a fraction of what it would have been if they were replaced. I was also fortunate enough to be offered a loan car to use so that I could get to work. I'm thankful for all the help I received and fortunate to happen upon such a good auto shop. I will definitely be back.
Thank you so much!! We appreciate your feedback.
Horrible Customer Service.
I used this mechanic based on reviews I found online so thought my experience should be shared.
I took my car in to get a relay to my AC fixed and could not be more dissatisfied with the service. Not only did they hold my car days longer than promised but the failed to solve the problem I was charged for.
My request was simple: please identify the problem with my AC and fix it. They say they 'fixed' the problem but then never reinstalled the blower motor or dash. Now I am out a significant sum of cash and stuck with a car with a broken A/C during what's predicted to be the hottest week of the summer so far.
Rather than addressing a mistake he made and moving on to what they can do to make it right, Brent tried to blame the customer for a request he failed to read. If the company responds to this review like the others I think you'll see my point (read the invoice Brent!)
I will never use their service again and I suggest you do the same.
Brian requested we do a prepurchase inspection on his vehicle as he was considering selling it. We did that. Brian also asked that we find out why his blower motor wasn't working (he had taken it apart and replaced himself, still wasn't working). We identified a relay that was damaged by water and replaced that relay. We couldn't find the necessary screws to reinstall the blower motor and attempted to call Brian and left a message. He did not return our call.
AAA Approved & Honors Their 4 Yr/40,000 Mile Warranty. AAA Approved & Honors Their 4 Yr/40,000 Mile Warranty: I've now had my truck in this great Hillsboro Village service station three times, and the service & value have consistently met Five Star standards. Today, I picked up my 1993 Ranger after they replaced the alternator they first put in OVER A YEAR AGO: No charge for parts, labor or charging system evaluation. They honored their warranty with a smile! NOTE: while they had the truck in the shop, I asked them to check out the serpentine belt, to see if it needed replacement. "Nope. It's fine." they said. I hope the reader understands the importance of this. Serpentine belt replacement is an easy scam for a disreputable business. In this case, I asked them to check it and they could have easily made some money doing an unnecessary replacement, especially since they weren't making any money off of my warranty-related service. If the prices seem higher than you'd prefer, please consider that this business seems to be following a great, reputable business model: do QUALITY work with QUALITY prices and GREAT, personable customer service. Is it any wonder that I consider this MY auto service station in Nashville, even though I live in Joelton? Great location close to Vanderbilt (including medical center), V.A. Medical Center, Music Row, and all the hotels of West End and downtown Nashville. If you are traveling through town and staying in one of those areas, it is an easy taxi ride from here to your lodgings. They have some good-running, older loaner cars (call ahead for availability) IF you currently carry FULL COVERAGE AUTO INSURANCE. More than fair. IF YOU ARE DRIVING/BEING TOWED: Best approach is from I-440, exit 21st Avenue OR from I-65 Wedgewood to Magnolia and right on 21st OR from Music Row - 17th to (becomes) Magnolia, then right on 21st. Other approaches can be problematic, traffic-wise.
This shop price gouges. We went to Bonnaroo 2010, and on our way one of our cars broke down in Nashville. We towed it to a friend's house, and he took it to Hillsboro Village Shell & Auto. Most of our party are engineers from an automotive school, and we knew that the issue was the fuel pump, which is about a 2-3 hour job depending on how long it takes to drop the fuel tank. Parts for the job would've cost ~$130, and at a liberal labor rate of $100, we expected to pay between $300-400. The estimate that Hillsboro Village Shell & Auto gave us was $800. Any way you cut it, this shop was screwing us over. Probably because we had out-of-state plates and we were in a pickle. They say that the true judge of character is how well you treat strangers. Hillsboro Village Shell & Auto is a complete failure in that respect.
Total Ripoff -- Get Other Estimates.
Went in for an exhaust repair/replacement. Was charged $50 for the privilege of getting an estimate -- never had that happen before -- and quoted $1000 for the total repair. I'd had the same repair done on two other cars, and I had never paid over $500. Usually I would expect the mechanic to tell me the details of the repair, but that didn't happen. The person in front just handed me the estimate and expected me to shell out $1000.
Turns out they hadn't even tried to save the catalytic converter, which would explain a couple hundred dollars. But even taking that into account, the price was ridiculously high. I don't mind paying a little extra for quality work, but this was just a ripoff.
I ended up going to another shop, which did save the converter, and repair ended up costing $500, as I'd expected.
I'll grant the person in front is friendly but that doesn't mean much when the mechanics are trying to take advantage of the customer. I wouldn't trust this shop with anything more than an oil change. Definitely get some other (free!) quotes on big repair jobs.
Our business is based upon increments of time, so yes, we charge for estimates because they take time. We base our exhaust repairs, as we do all repairs, on our opinion of what is best for the customer and their vehicle. On exhaust repairs, specifically, we consult with one of the best exhaust repair shops in the city for their opinion on what the best course of action is. We never try to take advantage of any of our customers We take their faith in us and their business very seriously. Customers are always welcome to get a 2nd opinion, just as you would with a doctor. And, just as with a doctor, opinions vary. We are honest and stand by our estimates and our work. If we make a mistake we will own up to it. We have an A+ rating with the BBB and we are AAA Approved and Recommended. Our warranty is 4 years/48k miles. If we don't feel like an option meets our standards for our warranty we will not recommend it for our customer and their vehicle.
What a great find!!. I work on the Vandy campus and desperately needed an oil change without having to wait until after work. I decided to take my SUV to this little place in Hillsboro Village so that I could just walk back to work. It was ready right when they said it would be. I just walked back over and picked it up. It was only $30 for the oil change, fluids/tire pressure checked, etc, and it's a little more expensive for me b/c I have an SUV, so if you have a car, it may be even less than $30. The girl at the counter was very nice and helpful. No one tried to sell me anything extra like those other chain places do. I couldn't have been more satisfied. I love that can now have auto repair done close by while I'm working so I don't have to waste my personal time after work. I also like that I'm giving my business to a LOCAL place!!
