Great Beer, Great Music, Great Times. Love this place. The food is solid, the beer selection is one of the better ones in Nashville, the outside patio is huge and great for when it's nice out and there's always a surprise when you're there. Last time I went, Dirks Bentley did a quick live show that he recorded for his album. I felt like a fool because I didn't know who he was until after the show, but boy did everyone else have a good time!
The best beer and eats in Nashville. If you want great food, great beer / wine and a friendly staff then go to 12 So. It's refreshing to go to a restaurant / bar in Nashville that isn't run by high school students. The staff at 12 So. Taproom are enthusiastic, professional and knowledgeable about what they sell. I take out of town guests here all the time and know it will be a winner.
BEST OYSTERS IN TOWN! great tunes!. The taproom is one of my favorite places here in nashville. The tap room is close to several other area bars, so it is always a great place to start off a bar crawl, or just hang on the patio and drink great beer all night! The food is fantastic (Cuban sandwich, add fresh mozerella cheese! FABULOUS!), and of course the oysters are the best in town! The staff is VERY friendly and seems to really take the time to get to know the patron's names. Always a feel good vibe!
Beer drinker's heaven. If you love a good beer, you can't go wrong at the Taproom. They have an impressive selection of quality beers on draft and a ridiculous amount of unique bottle offerings. The food is great. The burger, quesadilla, and salmon are all favorites. They feature some great bands on different nights. This is one of the few bars in Nashville that truly has that Cheers "everybody knows your name" feel. If you are looking for a pub to become a "regular" at, check out the Taproom.
great beer - great food - smoke free.
Reading all of the other reviews going on and on about kids, you would think they would also write about the consumables available at this clever and unique place.
A visit to 12 South for me is almost always for dinner after socializing at the Yazoo Brewery on Thursdays. For whatever reason, the Yazoo on tap at 12 South is even better than at the brewery itself. Perhaps it is the quick turnover of the kegs, the cooler temperature of their beers, or the fact that they get you a fresh frozen pint glass for every new round: little frozen drops of water on the sides of the glass - refreshing. Their selection of tap brews is well thought out too - Terrapin, and Sweetwater 420 are the standouts for me.
For meals, I've never had a bad one. The pub burger, (jamaican, haha) chicken, salmon BLT, asian chicken salad, chicken wings. The bleu cheese dip for the wings is amazing. The potato spears in lieu of fries are amazing. The garlic mashed are also heavenly. The pub burger has got some unusual seasoning that makes it the most creative blob of chopped meat I've ever enjoyed. It is almost too generous in size as well.
Entertainment at 12 south is also refreshing: Dave Peterson and his 'country band', and the Gypsy Hombres are the best. There is an unusual gallery of art from Christy's art gallery too.
The staff are as attentive as to seem like they are your friends. Noteable wait staff are Alex and Bill - great kids.
As far as parking goes - it's a bit tight in their lot. I choose to always park on Elmwood and just walk. After your meal, that may not be a bad thing. But show some respect to the neighbors and keep it quiet.
Family friendly & smoke free.
I frequent this place often at lunch and sometimes at night. While I was not at the restaurant at the time of this incident, I am there often enough to know that this place is very kid-friendly. The owners have small children themselves and the feeling is that everyone on staff is family. I see at least one small child every time I am there at lunch and have seen no indication that this is not a welcome thing.
The staff are knowlegeable and enthusiastic about the variety of beer in house and eager to educate the public. The Cuban pork loin sandwich and salmon BLT are my recommendations with the delectable roasted potato wedges. And I LOVE that this place is smoke free!!
kid friendly if your kids are friendly.
I was at the taproom to witness the incident described below. That ladies kids were honestly ruining everbody's time. They were running from one side of the restaurant screaming at the top of their lungs. Not words, mind you, just yelling. Running from table to table, all over the restaurant. All the while the two mothers did nothing to stop it. When the children started throwing silverware at the ceiling and standing on the table and chairs, other customers could no longer take it. Several patrons asked the staff to make them leave. The waiter asked if they needed anything else and dropped the check. The one mom gave him an earful and then they started packing up.
It was at this point that one customer at the bar started applauding. It was rude, to be sure, but not rude enough to keep others from joining him. At this point the second mom started into it with that customer. While she was busy feeling victimized her toddler wandered off into the kitchen. She just stood there saying she was a lawyer. So? Does a law degree mean that your kid isn't grabbing boiling water off a stove?
Then they left and a sense of brotherhood was shared by all who endured this fiasco.
Ten minutes later the first mom came back in looking for a child's coat that she had misplaced. Minor detail, mother of the year.
Long story short, that lady thinks family friendly means making as big a scene as possible and getting away with it.
NOT KID FRIENDLY!!. Why bill yourself as a family friendly restaurant when you so clearly don't want kids in your establishment?!! Get rid of the kid's menu!! Without a doubt, this was the WORST dining experience of my entire life. The food was blah, service was horrible, and there was no adequate child seating (again, NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY!) I'm a mature, professional adult with 2 small children who mistakenly decided to meet a friend and her children at this place for a quick meal. Were our collective children excited to be out with friends? You bet. Too excited. Were they well behaved? Absolutely not. But nothing could ever warrant the hostility and nastiness spewed our way by the waitstaff and fellow patrons. Especially the slovenly, sketchy man planted on a bar stoll, drinking beer (no doubt, a familiar situation for him) ... who thought it was appropriate to clap and yell obscenities at myself & my children (ages 3 and 5) when we were leaving the restaurant. If this place wants to be "family friendly", then provide adequate seating for familes in an area that won't disturb other patrons. Or, as I stated earlier, don't claim to be family friendly! My family frequently eats out at numerous restaurants in Nashville ... something that we are financially able to do with our small, yet outgoing and well-traveled children. We have NEVER had a problem anywhere (including transpacific flights), and will NEVER set foot in this restaurant again ... at least until it goes out of business and re-opens under new ownership!!
My husband and I LOVE this place!!. We live in the neighborhood and always mosey down to the 12th South Taproom when we don't feel like cooking and we want a couple brew ha-has. The food is fantastic and all made from scratch there. Plus, there's a huge selection of microbrews. I definitely recommend this place, especially if you don't want to brave the crowd at Mafioza's, right next door.
