Lucas Nursery has a ton of reviews
online, but if you look at them, the long descriptive ones are always negative, I wouldn't be surprised if they're having friends, family and employees go and put positive reviews about themselves to save their reputation.
Worst service ever. Lucas Jr. and all of his staff embody the belief that they are always right and feel no need to provide any customer service. We had multiple experiences here, first when we came to ask about pricing and delivery information for purchasing trees (to which we waited over 45 minutes for any service), second when we tried to buy over $3,000 worth of trees and they rushed us out because they were closing and clearly didn't care about business.
And lastly when they yelled at us and Lucas Jr. (the owner) literally told me "you are the rudest, nastiest, meanest and most vicious people" over the phone when I tried to resolve a return issue after a long fight in the store and they refused to refund us for undelivered trees that we no longer wanted after such poor treatment. I would definitely stay away from these people.
They provide such rude and demeaning treatment that it's clear they don't value their customers, and post fake yelp reviews of themselves from employees and family to combat the real bad reviews of them.
Most rude and unprofessional salesman ever!.
The store may be nice and have nice clerks, but our real disappointment is with the landscaping services through the son, Bob Lucas Jr. After we signed a contract (in Mar.), every conversation was unpleasant and filled with condescending tones. My impressions were that he was very disorganized and his communication skills are seriously lacking. The day they arrived to install our patio, two others tried to argue with him about how he wanted the job done. It was obvious they were actually right with their objections. (As I'm standing there in my backyard, with kids watching, waiting for him to measure out the patio, he stops and starts talking to someone else, cussing about another employee.) They told him there wasn't enough gravel. He replied, "Go get whatever you need from that empty lot next door. Add dirt to the rock if you have to. I don't care how you do it, just make it work." We paid $500 for the patio to be raised up a foot in addition to the normal patio price, and I explained that we had plans to landscape around the outside of the patio, yet Bob Jr. insisted on doing us a "favor...for free" dumping a few bobcat loads of dirt around the outside "so we wouldn't have to add so much topsoil later." That "free" work was a disaster!!! They mounded so much dirt, rock and clay around the outside of the patio leaving a huge slope extending 12 feet out from the patio to the middle of the drainage easement. We were so disgusted, but quite frankly didn't trust them enough to fix it and took care of putting in a retaining wall and removing most of that excess ourselves.
When we signed our contract, we were told the sod would be installed the week after the patio. When he was at our home and I asked about the sod, he blew me off with complaints about weather. About a month earlier he'd started complaining about doing our sod because their prices for sod from the supplier rose and our price was fixed in the contract. He was really mad about the fixed prices and said he'd be passing along price increases to the customer in the future. Lots of complaints about how he wouldn't be making money. A week after the patio I called to asked for a tentative day for the sod because we were making vacation plans. He was very snotty and told me he'd already told me it would be later that month. I told him I wanted to be clear on exactly what they were going to do before the sod was put down because what we expected with the patio and what happened were two different things. Oh my! He exploded! Wouldn't even listen. We didn't ask him to do one single thing about it or demand anything, but he was incredibly nasty and hateful. He went from denying that his employees would ever put gravel down that far out from the patio edge to whining about how he couldn't babysit them. I offered to send photos as proof of the final product, but he wasn't interested in the truth. Then he started whining about how much he hated his job and this business with the awful weather. Of course, when I said I wished I had known that before we signed a contract, he backed off and said everyone hates their job at times. Yes, but most are professional enough to not share that with customers. He did not want to do our sod (of course, since prices rose) and used this as an excuse to cancel the contract. He "talked to his dad and didn't have to take this from people like us." That's ok with us. We found a nice, polite, PROFESSIONAL, source for sod nearby at nearly half the price AND it will be installed this week instead of a month from now or even later.
