Tips for Casona Restaurant

AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE!!. I've always had an amazing experience at Casona. I've been there many times since i first heard about them. I even had my fiancee's surprise 30th there. The manager was VERY accommodating and very helpful through the whole set up. The server made sure everyone had a drink and he took such great care of everyone. Our family and friends talked about it for WEEKS after saying how much they enjoyed the food and everyone put in extra money because they felt he deserved a bigger tip! I had the Ropa Veija .. not sure if i spelled that right lol but it was perfect! Every time I've gone back after that I've had nothing but great service and great food! I love sitting out on the patio on a nice day that i would normally be stuck inside!! One time I went there and they had a great 2 person band which made it another great kind of experience. I recommend EVERYONE to give it try and you'll be hooked like we are.

Slightly better than average Mexican food with AWFUL service. I had heard that Casona had a new chef from the last time my husband and I dined there so we decided to give it another go. I must say the food has drastically improved, but with that the service has absolutely plummeted. Hands down the worst service we have ever received at any restaurant EVER in Collingswood. When we arrived for our seven o'clock reservation the restaurant was half full. The waitress sat us at the worst table in the entire restaurant - a two top right in front of the door to the kitchen, crammed up against a wall behind another table in the middle of a walk way, if you can imagine that. She threw our menus down and walked away. I couldn't even get into my seat because the wine buckets were against the chair. I had to move the wine buckets myself, me a paying customer, at their establishment. My husband went back up to the front and asked for a new table which we got but we had to gather up our menus, glasses, and silverwear ourselves. (Side note, throughout our meal not once did they try and seat another couple at that particular table.) Another waitress came over a few minutes later and said "what can I get you?" She didn't offer to take our drink order, didn't tell us any specials, nothing. It was like we were at a low-class diner in the inner city. We ordered an appetizer (which was good, but way overpriced for the size and ingredients). Our entrees came out and they were good too. Unfortunately at that point it was kind of like that feeling you get when you meet a very attractive person who has the worst personality ever; their personality has ruined it and they no longer are beautiful, just ugly. After dinner the waitress came up and said "anything else?" My husband had to ask her, our server, for a dessert menu. Yes the food has gotten better, but it's basically Mexican, no longer Cuban. You're better off going to the Tortilla Press up the street, where you're going to get MUCH better service and more reasonable prices. Awful, Awful, Awful.

NEVER was seated, even though we had a dinner reservation. Update: 5/11/10 The owner of Casona's has been in contact with us and is having us to his restaurant along with 20 of our guests for an evening on him.

We had a reservation last night for 7:30pm for a party of 8. We arrived at 7:25. We were told our table was almost ready, as another party was getting ready to leave our table.(We heard this excuse for an hour and a half). At 9:00pm, our entire party left and went to Cafe Aldo Lamberti on Rt. 70. We were never given an apology, never offered a complimentary mojito mixer, nothing. We had been to Casona's at least 2 dozen times before. In fact, my husband frequently entertains clients there and spends quite a lot of money there. We will never go back. It was truly, the worst experience we have ever had.

Citysearch Editorial Review. Welcome to the big house. No, not that big house! The big house with the wrap-around porch on Collingswood’s main drag that’s called Casona, or “big house” in Spanish. This house, which has been many things in its 100-year life, is currently serving as a restaurant--and one of the town’s most popular at that. The contemporary rustic BYOB with hard-wood floors, fresh flowers and cheerful colors is charming and bustling at all times, energized by an enormous menu that provides both Cuban and Mexican choices, a customer-service-oriented staff and a Victorian porch that stays heated and open all year long. And what’s more, they’ll let you leave of your own free will when you’re done.

Succulent meals that melt in your mouth, great for a special occasion.. After two visits to Casona, I'm hooked. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the combinations of flavors are interesting and addictive. The pulled pork and plantain appetizer is fantastic and the filet will melt in your mouth. Definitely worth the trip to Collingswood. Outdoor dining is also a plus.

Best Cuban Food experience in the tristate area. The food was excellent and a nice change form the ordinary. The atmosphere is very classy and relaxing. the light latin background music adds to the great Cuban food. My favorite dish is the Paella and for brunch the Casona Burgers with Empanadas as an appetizer. I wil return again and again.

Great Latin Food in a beautiful space with friendly service and consistent quility. Casona has been around for a while now, it has only gotten better. I don't know of any other restaurant that will go to almost any means to please it's customers. Sure they have had their ticks and problems, but they recognize their issues and deal with them.. I've been going there for years. It's a great place. Don't miss it. You will see what I mean.

Opened with a splash and devolved to a mediocre dining experience.. Casona opened with a splash. Great food, great service and great location with a porch. Casona still has a porch which affords a great dining experience on warm evenings in the spring, summer and early fall. Unfortunately, the food and service took a turn for the worse this past winter as the result of a new chef and turnover of key staff. After a brief golden age, Casona quickly devolved to a mediocre dining experience.

Best Overall Experience in 2008. When it comes to overall experrience Casona is the place to go. The food, I recommend the snapper, was far better than expected. The service was the most professional from any food establishment I've been to. My party was treated as if we were the only ones there, at a time when every table was full. The speed of service, decor, and overall atmosphere couldn't have been better. If you haven't visited Casona, you must put it on your to do list immediately. Highly Recommended! Thank you Larry and Staff.

Wow, Wow, Wow, Great Food, Atmosphere and Service. I love Casona! My Mother and I dine at Casona often... My schedule and lifestyle allow me to travel back and forth between Tampa, Florida and Cherry Hill. Also, I am half Cuban and know what is authentic and Neuvo. Casona does both - very well. The ropa vieja, lechon asado, picadillo and the arroz con pollo are very tasty and true to the caribbean flavor. The paella is bursting with fresh seafood, fluffy safron rice, chorizo and juicy chicken. They have great options for steak lovers! Casona's filet is fabulous! If you are in the mood for a good Latin style steak - try the churascco. It's as good if not better than any you could get in a Brazilian steak house. The in excellent in house coffee and dessert bar are available to make your favorite coffee, tea, smoothie, flan and of course the famous "tres leches" cake. Casona is run out of a renovated colonial revival manse with a grand wrap around porch. The beautilful landscaping and caribbean colors make it the place to be - expecially when the weather is nice. Service at Casona can seem relaxed, but what many people do not realize is that it is supposed to be at this pace. At times, we have experienced delays with food timing and extended waits in between courses. The two times this happened, we were informed by our server of the issue and we were fine. Don't miss Sunday brunch. The variations on classics like "arepa eggs benedict," "churassco steak and eggs," combined with French toast , waffles and omlettes truly set Casona apart. I and many, many others support Casona, and we want them to succeed. This is why, some of us have decided to review them in such detail.
