Tips for A Big Boys Moving Company

May 13, 2013

Trust me when I say... BIG BOYS MOVING is your best choice.

I'd like to thank Big Boys Moving & Storage for a tremendous job on my move from Riverview to Tampa last week. I moved from one 3000+ sq ft home to another (packed full and both 2 story), and they knocked it out on schedule without any damage whatsoever.

As I am a military contractor, I have moved several times in the past 20 years, included multiple international moves, and this is the first time everything has been completed on schedule without any issues. They came highly recommended and listed as preferred contractors in the government database and now I know why.

The crew chief was extremely knowledgeable and a true master at packing the trucks. His team was both motivated and courteous. I would most certainly use this company and only this company the next time that we move and will refer them to all of my friends, family and coworkers. Thank you.

Awful experience! Movers were confirmed to come between 1-3. I received a call at 1pm saying that they were running late and wouldn't be there until 7pm. I was also promised a call to "touch base" at 5:30, which never happened. The movers did not show up until 9 PM!!!!! I was moving into my new place at 11pm at night! They refused to offer me a discount for my major inconvenience. I move frequently and will NEVER use them again. I absolutely will not recommend this company to anyone!!

Who would think that the BIG BOYS would come early morning bright eyed and bushy tailed. They sure were!

Their communications with me were on par. They called me when they were on their way. They were on time as can be, and when they arrived they went straight to work moving my items. They climbed my mountain of stairs, (I'm on the third floor!) and walked back down them with my belongings, my bed, my heavy stuff, my endless boxes.

They were very good and efficient. These guys do not want to prolong their stay with you, and thus you pay more money for them. They want to fill their truck asap get to the destination, and then move on and do as many moves as they can that day. That is much appreciated.

When I went through different moving companies and gathered my wonderful quotes, I came back to these guys and showed them my quotes. They worked with me to get a quote, and price I was happy with. They always answered emails and phone calls promptly, and there was no problems or stress whatsoever.

When you are moving, that's stress enough. You can be able to choose Big Boys Moving and Storage, and not have any stress. They will take care of all the work for you. We all pay movers to move us for a reason, and pray they will make sure they deliver the best service possible. Well Big Boys does.

No wonder their website says “Best of the Bay” movers. They sure were THE BEST in every way.

Thanks to Big Boys I am mostly settled in. Don't hesitate contacting them to make your move a whole lot easier.

I've used Big Boys Moving and Storage 3 times now - and each time I was more satisfied than the time before!

They are always prompt (or keep in great communication with you if they are running behind) and friendly. It amazes me how efficiently they moved my entire apartment and in each of my 3 moves, they never broke or scratched any of my furniture or walls!

What's great about their pricing is that everything was included! They don't charge extra for stairs, or how far the parking lot is from the door, or how heavy things are. Just a simple all-inclusive hourly charge: They brought a big truck with two big movers, all the blankets, dollies and moving pads....and even wardrobe boxes for my clothes!!

That being said, if you get a quote from them, that hourly rate is good for 2 years for repeat customers...even if their rate goes up! This was a great surprise for me as I seem to move every year. Also when I called to book my last move, it was less than 10 days in advance, and they were still able to accommodate me on my first choice move date and time.

Hopefully I won't be moving for a while- But when I do, I'll be calling them again. I’ve told all my friends and family about them. I appreciated the perfect service over the years Big Boys. You’re an asset to Tampa Bay!

WORST MOVING COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. Contacted re move from a 4 bedroom house to a 4 bedroom apartment on 2nd floor. Man answering was a great salesman and I fell for it. I detailed furniture that was to be moved along with approx. number of boxes. Quoted a price of $99 per hour for 2 movers and a 26' truck with a $59 travel charge specifically ask if there were any hidden fees, "NO" was the answer. Questioned several times if two men would be adequate for the move and was assured they could handle it. Men arrived promptly at 7:30 am, did a walk through of the house and advised it was going to take several trips to complete the move. Contract was presented and explained the same fees quoted BUT they were driving a 24' truck vs. the 26' promised. ALSO, in explaining cost said there would be a 10% gratutity added for the two men. I questioned the additional fee and was told that this is basically where their pay came from, one stated that without it he could not do this job.

Move began, first trip was made and unloaded, these two men REALLY worked hard and steady. Their choice was to load boxes first vs. furniture which I found confusing. Unloading of the furniture and properly assembling and placing is major in my estimation since boxes will have to be moved aroung again when furniture is unloaded. Second trip, truck was loaded, again with little furniture.

The time now is approximately 3:30 pm.

During this unloading, movers were questioned as to their estimated time of completion since there were considerable items remaining in the house. One man stated "this trip should have had two trucks and four men" and it was listed on their daily work sheet as a 2 bdrm house to a 2 bdroom apartment.

Contacting the office, talked to a VERY rude woman who identified herself as their supervisor, questioned the situation, she wanted to check with the moving men and get back to me. Her call said "they have approximately 40 minutes left to unload and then they will return for the furniture". This estimate would place the time at 2 hrs to reload the truck and 2 hrs. to unload. This would place the final move in at approx. 8:30 pm or later. Explaining to her I felt they did not consider the information I provided and did not prepare with enough manpower or truck size. I made it empathically clear that we had NO BEDS to sleep on and I have two 8 yr. old children. She contacted the movers, told them to stop unloading , return to the house and get the furniture I requested. They returned with a half full truck and therefore could not fit all the remaining pieces in the truck.

FINAL RESULTS, I was informed that payment had to be made BEFORE THE TRUCK WAS UNLOADED and the charge for 12 hrs was over $1200. YEP, YOU GUESSED IT, LOTS OF ITEMS REMAINED IN THE HOUSE, PIECES NECESSARY TO ASSEMBLE BEDS, DESK, ETC. WERE LEFT SO NOTHING WAS PUT TOGETHER.

Now, I am left to hire another moving company to finish the job. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER CONSIDER THIS COMPANY. THEIR CONTRACT PROTECTS THEIR INTEREST AND DOES NOT SPECIFY WHAT THEY PLAN TO DO FOR YOU...........

THE FINAL ALTERNATIVE IS REPORTING TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU WITH DOCUMENTED PICTURES OF ALL THE REMAINING ITEMS LEFT AT HOUSE AND FURNITURE STILL IN THE BLACK WRAPPINGS SITTING IN LIVING ROOM AND OFFICE.

The Big Boys moved me into my new home with ease! My furniture was heavy, but they never complained! Instead, they were hysterical and made the entire process funny and made me feel very comfortable. They knew exactly what they were doing. Did it fast and at for a great price. I would recommend this company to my closest friends! I am very grateful for their service!

Below review is absolutely fake. Prakash M states that "guys drove past me in 18 wheeler and could not turn in" Here at Big Boys Moving & Storage we value our quality reputation and want to immediately address that we do not own 18 wheelers. That is what vanline companies and/or trucking companies use. We only own 24 and 26 ft box trucks. The second part of the review that shows it is fake is that in one sentence the reviewer states they paid $850 extra in cash and did not get a receipt and in another sentence states the bill went from $3200 to $4500. The math simply doesn't add up. It is sad that an individual or jealous competitor has to spend their time making up false reviews. Thank you.

A BIG rip off. I was told to ensure the storage unit was accessible by 18 wheeler .. and YES, the storage units indeed are. The guys drove past, called me on the phone and said NO ^(*&% WAY they can make a turn into the unit. Less than 10 minutes later, I see another 18 wheeler successfully get into the SAME storage unit.

They called me, asked me to rent a RYDER truck or U-Haul (20 feet truck) and "meet them" in the car part of the local supermarket. They CHARGE me 850 dollars EXTRA (IN CASH) for which I never got a receipt (through I insisted on a receipt).

They used the small 20 feet truck to make the unloading and they effected that in 3 loads.

I MUST graciously admit they are excellent movers - careful and watchful. But, I did not expect an initial quote of 3200 dollars blow into 5400 dollars (at source) and then 850 on top at destination !!!
