Completely Absurd. – I would suggest that anyone considering to eat at this restaurant understand that if they do, they are directly contributing towards the activities of puppy mills. Every weekend you will see a 1/4 mile long strip of live animals being sold under conditions that most kind-hearted people would think was both unbelievable and illegal. The county has kicked these puppy mills off of the county road intersection only to have them get the approval of this restaurant to run their puppy mill operations (the sale) on their property. Absolutely disgusting.
Terrible Service, Bland greasy food, and they Allow PUPPY SALES on their property!! – I completely agree with the other review here. What sort of restaurant would allow the sale of live animals on their property. Other than the animal cruelty aspect of this- It is just downright bizarre and cheesy. Do they seriously feel that this is adding to their revenue? Gross. Furthermore, the few times I have been here, (because everywhere else was far too busy) I have strongly regretted it. There was a time that we waited over 15 minutes to be seated and 3/4 of the restaurant was completely empty. The servers and hostess just walked past us as if we weren't there! We finally walked out and went to Wendy's for a fast food lunch! In hindsight, it probably tasted better and cost 1/4 of what we would have paid at Sportsmans. If they continue on the track that they are on, it will not be long before they run themselves out of business!
Allows Backyard Breeders and Puppymillers to sell animals in their parking lot. – The Owatonna MN Cabella's store said NO to animal sales on their property almost 1 year ago. However, the Sportsman's Grill restaurant just across the frontage road has welcomed these sellers with open arms.
Each Saturday and Sunday all summer long, you will see almost 1/4 mile of frontage road full of tents, canopies, and pens and cages full of tiny puppies and kittens. Hand lettered signs reading AKC Cocker Spaniels, Lab pups for Sale, Free Kittens, and more stand in front of each area. Walking through this makeshift mall, the sights and sounds are disheartening. Some days 5-6 week old puppies crawl over each other trying to find comfort from the blazing sun. Other days they huddle together to stay warm in the wind and rain. As the puppies get older, the paper signs start to appear, needs to go make offer, price reduced. As if these little living beings are produce set to expire.
So now that the back yard breeders and puppy millers have made their money, and the owners of the Sportman's Grille have seen an increase in their weekend revenue, who really pays the price?
The little puppies and kittens who had no choice, and are the innocent victims once again. Makes any animal owner, lover, or kind hearted person want to give this restaurant a pass.
