With some help from Chagall, Gauguin and Seurat, this art museum has become the pride of Louisville..
The Scene
The museum opened its doors in 1927 and is located near the University of Louisville. With over 5,000 pieces that span 6,000 years of art history, the Speed Museum is Kentucky's most comprehensive public art museum.
The Collection
The museum's strengths are in Renaissance and Baroque tapestries and decorative arts, 17th-century Flemish and Dutch painting, and 18th-century French painting. The ancient Mediterranean and Native American arts are also strongly represented. The museum hosts special lectures and seminars on a regular basis.
Take your kids here.. Ok, so I may be overly emotional, but art museums bring tears of joy to my eyes. I love taking my children here so that they can grow up loving something that means so much to me. Besides the marquee works my must see items are: "The Newsboy" and a breathtaking pair of stained glass windows.
Slow down for Speed. This is a very nice museum that should not be missed by all visitors to our wounderful city
