Ojai >Food & Dining > Azu
My husband and I had an excellent meal at Azu. The food was as advertised at www.azuojai.com. Family-run place in renovated historic building. Check out the ornate bars.
My dining experiences at Azu have been nothing less than exceptional. Azu is charming. It offers unique dishes and fine wine at a reasonable price and provides an atmosphere fit for a casual or fancy dining experience. I frequently visit Azu and have celebrated two birthdays there. The wait-staff is attentive and the owner is personable. Although all the dishes have been exceptional, I recommend the stuffed dates, chilean sea bass and the berry tartlet!
nice tapas menu, paella, fresh green salad, lamb sausages...all v good. barman was lovely...
great! – My brother and planned a Valentine's celebration for our wives but neglected to account for how difficult it would be getting a table that night. To my horror, my brother suggested we just get pizza... Luckily I prevailed and we walked down to Azu, just to see if you all could squeeze us in.
Indeed they could AND did. While it was a table in the back room, (which was a bit noisy especially with the several large parties already there), it was nevertheless a pleasant room and our server, (I'm terrible with names.) went above and beyond her call of duty.
Along with the high quality food and all the extras, including the dessert... the whole experience was well beyond my expectations making for a terrific evening out.
My brother and I are working stiffs. We can't often splurge on a weekend away. Azu rescued us from a not-very-romantic dinner of pizza and beer, invited us into a warm atmosphere and made our weekend truly an event to fondly remember. They reestablished my belief in humanity and proved that some places aren't ALL about the money.
Many Thanks! – Our Ojai wedding took place on New Year's Day and we booked the entire restaurant for our reception. I grew up in Ojai, so I was completely confident about the quality of their food and atmosphere. I had to plan my the wedding while living on the East Coast, so I was apprehensive that working long distance with Azu might be difficult. Not in the least! I received phenomenal service from first to last.
My guests (especially the 'foodies') raved about the quality of the tapas (served while we were having our pictures done) and couldn't give enough compliments on the buffet dinner that followed. The atmosphere was just what I wanted. We had about 75 guests and probably could have fit 100 without feeling too crowded. We had an open bar before/after dinner and dancing in the back room after the cake. If you are considering holding a reception here I cannot give a more emphatic recommendation. And if you run the numbers I am sure you will agree with me that the price is more than reasonable.
Many thanks to everyone at Azu for making my reception a flawless part of my wedding memories.
