Permenently scarred me – I lived at Victory Village for one year I am guessing it was 1987. I was only ten years old and the youngest at the time to have ever gone there.
Before going there I had behavioral problems do to a very dysfunctional home. Other than that I had no drug history, sexual history I was just a child.
While at Victory Village I was beaten almost daily by the older girls and even stripped and left in the snow and there was no staff ever around to protect me. During my stay I never received an education since the school teacher never made us do anything except sit at our desks. I was sexually assaulted when an older girl took me into town with her and it made it into the newspapers. I even remember a girl named Rhonda having sex on the dining room table and a girl named Katrina stole all my clothes and the staff did not help me get them back because they staff there only stayed there for free room and board and not to work or help the girls. This place left me with scars that may never heal.
Let it be the will of God – I came to Victory Village malicious, bitter, cynical and manipulative as a 13 year old girl raised in the city of Los Angeles on April 13th, 2007. I turn 18 the 3rd of this upcoming September, I am a high school graduate, I've out grown with the help of the Cowell's and the VV staff my rebellious and harmful ways of living.. and I STILL on my own choice, have asked my parents (who i've come to grown a closer, and not one bit undermined relationship with) to let me stay here in Burrton, rather than the exciting city of LA.
Growing up there, I was a one of a kind, individually unique, had a wild sense of rebellion and used it in ways that hurt myself and the people in my life. Victory Village let Jesus do the 360 turn in my heart that changed me forever.
If not for there kindness and compassion and ways of mending the broken soul I'd be nevertheless on the streets this coming fall on my own.
Now I'm in college, living at the dorm and starting a life, I hope to work here one day and pass on what they have done for me and be a model for the girls. It's not in the Cowell's that the girls change it's in Jesus. This was my perfect resort to saving my soul. I'm so thankful for Victory Village and am sorry you feel it didn't work the same for your daughter. She's a great girl that I am positive.
BEWARE ???!!! – I hate to disagree with the above ( or below as the case may be). I am an alum of Victory Village. I hate to hear that your daughter was not helped by this place. I certainly was. I would not be the decent, educated, and responsible person that I am if it weren't for Victory Village. I personally know of MANY people that Victory Village has helped over the years. Many of us would have been living on the streets, without food and basic necessities, and you might as well have never thought about graduating from high school, much less going on to college.
I hate to say it, but as teenagers, most of them think that they know EVERYTHING and refuse to listen to others. Some girls will not allow themselves to be helped during this time in thier lives. Perhaps traumas that happened to her BEFORE entering Victory Village had something to do with her inability to open up and let someone help her.
Victory Village is a humble, Christian, and family-oriented place. And if the family can't afford it, they take the girls on anyway! They love and care about each girl that walks through thier gate. God Bless them for helping teenagers when so many others are not willing to do so!
I thank God every day for the difference they made in my life!
BEWARE – Be verry carfull of this place. We sent our trubled 16 year old Daughter there to help her. instead they
Further corupted her. With unchaperoned lart night partys unfiltrered internet. did every thing possible
to undermine our relationship with her. hid her out of state in a lesbian relationship. and tried to take custody
from us. tried to set us up with false charges. They have brain washed her so much that we may never
have a relationship with her again. the president of this so called Cristian girls school is Bill Cowell
They survive from donations. please dont support them and NEVER SEND YOUR DAUGHTER THERE.
