Tips for Shawmut Property Management

we hired them after our last company
cost us over 13k in conservation committee fines relating to their failure to oversee a large project correctly. The past management company just stuck us with the bill, SPM came in and is working to rectify all of the damage done.
They have been responsive and responsible....

Beware. Shawmut was the first management company that I have had to deal with and I hope it is the last after this horrible experience. My husband and I lived in a condo that Shawmut was the management company for. Its hard enough going through the process of selling a home, but this company needed to make it more difficult. They avoid returning phone calls or dealing or accepting responsibility for the company's actions or lack of actions. They place the blame on others. They are also not helpful when it comes to answer any relevant questions. I am hopeful that after this experience that the condo board will fire them as a management company and obtain a new one for the sake of the other neighbors. I strongly urge everyone to stay away from Shawmut and their services, or better yet lack of services provided for the money paid!

Just hired!. Hey we just hired this outfit and so far I'm really impressed. They got us up to speed with a new community site and attended to our maintenance issues promptly. The last firm was located in Peabody and they were down right terrible. Contact me for a good reference on Shawmut!

In general.
I think my neighbors are all insane, the only thing keeping them away from me is our management company. We had this group since 2006 and they have done a good job with the place.
I'm not on the Board but I did have an issue with an out of control neighbor. SPM and Jen stepped right in and got them to stop banging on the walls and leaving stuff in the hallways.

Worse Management Company. I do not recommend Shawmut Management Company. Since Shawmut became out manager, our condo association has gone down hill. They bring in their own people to do work-- which I have witnessed doing more socializing and less working. Things don't get done and questions don't get answered. We must go through our board in order to get to our "On site" manager. Our manager is unresponsive and issues do not get resolved.

Our Condo.
We hired Shawmut about 3 years ago, have had no trouble with them at all. I'm on the Board for 15 years and even for a small stretch of self management, let me tell you that is a disaster.
The prior management company had been with us for about 10 years when the owner decided to pack up and retire. We had a good relationship with him and were nervous to make a change.
We looked at 5 others and Shawmut was the top pick along with another smaller firm. We picked Shawmut based on price and offering.
I voted for Shawmut based on what they said they would do and we stay with them because they actually do it!

Terrible..... As a board member at a local southern, NH community I was shocked and truly disappointed to find out that after being relieved of their property management duties, Shawmut Property Management try to submit a proposal under another name (Granite Commercial Group) which I guess is a "sister company." If you do a little investigative work you too will see that this Chameleon of a company is the same one and will serve their clients no better than the original. What kind of ethics does this company have....NONE!
