The Scene – Wonderfully eclectic decor of reclaimed wood, architectural artifacts, Asian paper lanterns and funky art comes together in an upscale-chic whole. Warmth and personality abound in the atmosphere, presentation, wine list and (usually) the service. – – The Food – Chef-partner Rick Jansen's New American cuisine is both creative and comforting. His crisp kettle-style potato chips are slathered with creme fraiche and three caviars (chile, wasabi and ginger) for a lavish yet unpretentious beginning. Talk about a great place to dine at, Tavern is the destination spot in the Chicago Land Suburbs you most definitely want to get to by train, plane or automobile. The Metra Milwaukee District North Line comes out of Union Station and stops right in Libertyville, one block from the restaurant. If you?re in the suburbs already, that?s wonderful, jump on your motor cycle or climb into your car and get on over to Beautiful Historic Downtown Libertyville and believe me, you?ll be treated by a real gem of a place. As you walk into the door, you will know you?re in a very special place; from the antique wall paper and gas lamp fixtures to the Brunswick bar that greets you. The Tavern will delight your senses, with the smell of awesome food in the air, and a decor that is so warm it immediately relaxes you. Ask for the Wine List and you will begin to know why you have made the trip, with over 700 bottles the list has won several Wine Spectator Awards. As for service, it's easy to see the entire staff really enjoys what they do; they work very hard to accommodate their clientele. We were invited there on a Saturday evening for a Surprise Birthday Party. I can say with certainty, if you are searching for the perfect location for a large group Hors d? oeuvre reception; then look no further. Their upper level serves Private Parties for all occasions. The food was outstanding and the service was well above average, with the staff being very attentive to all the guests needs. It?s been weeks, and we?re still raving about The Tavern.
