Editorial Review for Continental Mid-Town – by Lauren McCutcheon
In Short
The cross-town sister to Old City's signature martini lounge draws crowds with retro decor--booths made from baby-blue vinyl car seats, a sunken dining room with curvy seats and wicker basket chairs hanging from the ceiling. After dark, a more boisterous party set takes over. Each item from the rainbow-decorated menu is meant for sharing, including extra-tall calamari salad, Thai noodles, vegetarian dumplings, lobster mac and cheese, lamb meze and homemade cotton candy.

Insider Tips
Where to SitSaddle up a surprisingly comfortable "pony" chair at the upstairs bar.
When to GoDuring warm months, the upstairs deck--accessible from a second entrance on 18th Street--is a great place to spend the sort of happy hour that rolls into a late night.

The Continental Midtown is just about my favorite place in the city to hang out. They've a great drink menu (my fave is the "French 75"), and the atmosphere is awesome, between the different colors, lighting, hanging bamboo chairs, and what I love in the warmer weather; a rooftop deck! Just wish it were bigger, but you can't have everything.
Pros: Drinks/Atmosphere/Stylish/Rooftop Deck
Cons: Just wish the rooftop deck was bigger!

I've eaten at Continental midtown a number of times and have never had a complaint about the food. The lobster mac & cheese is amazing. It is delightfully cheesy and tender and you'll never want another mac & cheese again. The calamari salad is refreshing and a great quick bite to eat. The calamari is perfectly cooked, never overdone and chewy. I would prefer that they take reservations as the waits can sometimes drag on and on, and during peak meal times it can be very loud, but overall, it's a great place for a nice, quick bite to eat.
Pros: reasonably priced, good food, inventive menu
Cons: waiting
