Nice Area, Clean, Good Deal – I am a single woman that has lived at Western Hills for several years. It is a nice area, reasonably priced and really convenient. I have never had any issue that management didnt take care of in a fast efficient manner. The units are a bit small, but for the price, it is worth it. They added Digital Cable tv and wifi as part of the rent. I plan to stay here until I am able to afford my own home.
Unprofessional owner, dingy apartments – Rented here for nearly 2 years. I was a junior in college when I first rented in this complex. The only complaints I had at the beginning was that all my neighbors smoked and the smell would seep into my apartment through the vents. There was also a string of car break-ins while I was there that the owner didn't do anything about. The only time I heard of the owner calling the police was when a fire extinguisher was stolen from one of the buildings. At one point after my first year I had a problem with my fridge shutting off on it's own only to start back up after a few hours. I contacted management each time this happened. I lost three fridge fulls of food before the manager finally had it replaced and the maintenance guy was nice enough to tell me later that they looked at it and one of the cooling pieces was shot and that is why it kept going out.
The second to last month on my contract I had someone fraudulently charge my account which resulted in a bounced rent check. This was the first time in almost two years that this had happened. I had NEVER even been late on my rent or have a bounced check. I spoke with the manager about the situation. At that time I was in the third trimester of pregnance and had been looking for a bigger place and, unfortunately, my due date was a week after the lease was up on the apartment. I spoke with the manager about the check and about moving out and we agreed that I would pay half of the rent for the month we were in and move out midway through the month. We spent a week packing everything and moving everything in order to be out by that date (the manager didn't inform me about the bounced check until over a week after he knew about it). The day I was to move out I called him so we could meet so that I could pay him and return the keys. Instead he claimed he had already filed in court to have me evicted and couldn't take the money as we had agreed. Once I received the court papers I found out that he actually filed in court several days after the date we had agreed that I could move by.
The owner may seem really nice while you are living there and even would greet me by name anytime I happened to see him, but he is only interested in money and will not keep any promises he makes or work with you if you have a problem. Instead of being able to move out and enjoy the end of my pregnancy and my new baby I had to spend over a year going through the courts because he lied to me and tried to get thousands of dollars that he wasn't owed. In the end I didn't have to pay him a cent and he had to spend money on a lawyer.
