Tips for Hughes Auto Sales

August 03, 2012

I purchased a 2008 Pontiac G6 from Hughes Auto about 9 months ago. I have enjoyed this vehicle alot. I also purchased a 03 Taurus back in 2007 from Russ. He was able to get me financed and I appreciate all the help he gave me. I will definitely be buying my next car from Hughes Auto.

Just bought my 4th car from Hughes Auto. I just got my 4th car from the Russ at Hughes Auto. I've had lots of good luck with my cars from there. I bought cars from them in '04, '07, '10, and '11. I will continue to purchase cars from there. The best part I can say is they will scan your car for free if any lights come on. I had a engine light come on my 2k grand prix that I purchased in '07. Local dealer wanted $85 to scan. Turns out my gas cap went bad. Hughes did not charge me. Great service from Russ and Andrew.

Absolutley DO NOT do business here!. This father son establishment is nothing but rudeness as soon as you walk in the door. IF you want their undivided attention, you better wear jewels and high dollar clothing because they wont acknowledge someone they assume cant afford their cars. (which are over-priced)Unless you walk in with an approved loan, dont even think about test driving one of their pieces of junk. With my personal case, i was greeted very nicely on the phone and told to come in and fill out a credit application, once i got down there it was a different story.Must be because im a young, minority, girl. I was pushed off back and forth between father and son shrugging me off. i asked to test drive a car and they told me "no" flat out. Not without a approved loan. ive never had a car salesman be so rude. Usually, when you go to a dealership, they're at your mercy, they are hoping for you to buy a car, so they go out of their way to accommidate. NOT THIS PLACE, you are at his mercy and he makes you feel like YOU owe HIM..so if he wants to sell you a car he will, if not, dont waste his time... And please do NOT ever have him do work on your vehicle..If you understand anything about cars, this story will blow you away! A good friend of mine actually purchased her car from Hughes a couple of years ago, and as a loyal customer, has always had it serviced through him. Everytime she did, Mr. Hughes would always say.."Bout time for a trade-In!?" and everytime she would say "nope, its paid off"

So in August 2009 her little automatic stopped running and it was determined that her transmission had completely gone. So, she took it to Hughes, who she trusted. He explained to her that he would give her a geat deal, and that he was going to be doing alot of work, for little cost. WRONG

It took his crew (not him, because i doubt if he knows how to work a cigarette lighter) more than a month to complete the work. When she finally got her car back, she broke her ankle and was unable to drive. So, her car sat in the driveway over the holidays. The end of February, she started to notice problems with her car. It was acting funny, and not wanting to run. She finally decided that she didnt trust Mr. Hughes so much anymore and decided to take it to a family friend and see what he could do or see. Later on that day when she called, to check up on the status, she about had a heart attack. The new mechanic explained that he had never seen anything like what was under her hood. He said he was sorry to say but there was no "fixing" this car. He said it had been damaged so badly, it was irreversable. He explained that whomever replaced the transmission "cut" it out, meaning however they had to get that thing outta there, they were gunna cut it to do it! They cut through electrical wires, and MOTOR parts! Even the EXHAUST! Needless to say, with my friend not making much more than the average person in galesburg (with 2 jobs), she is without a car completley.

All the expense of MR. HUGHES!!

This little woman is all of 120lbs and is 5'2 and when she went to confront him of his dishonest ways, he opened the door and told her to get out of his establishment. He never tried reasoning, or even appologizing. He wouldnt even take a look for himself. He should take down those christian pictures on the wall, ( which are yellow and out dated) because he is commiting crimes against innocent people.
