Editorial Review for Sorrento Ristorante Italiano – by Eric Gerber
The Scene
Handsome and inviting, this Italian eatery on Lower Westheimer offers high ceilings and higher prices, but the experience is worth it. Impeccable service, romantic atmosphere and quietly attractive, multiroom design foster an air of luxury without ostentation. A pocket-sized bar at the entrance provides an excellent vantage point while the solarium-like side room is a haven for less formal diners.
The Food
Though the name salutes the resort town near Naples, the food isn't that provincially specific. It's neo-Italian fare, often sleek and delicately sauced. Crab cake with white polenta makes a lovely starter and a colorful beet-and-blood orange salad is flavorful and attractive. Hefty meat dishes, like prosciutto-wrapped beef tenderloin, duck carbonara and venison chops, anchor the main courses. The cioppino (seafood stew) and salmon on risotto will satisfy lighter eaters. Fragile, flan-like panna cotta drizzled with limoncello leads the dessert tray.

My fiance took me here to propose to me. We got excellent service. The bread guy walking around was a bit different (in a cool way). Very nice manager and wait staff. The lobster bisque is very yummy along with all the other food on the menu!. (I just love bisque). Any time I want a romantic date, this is a good spot.
Pros: Good Food, Good Service, Good Atmosphere
Cons: Parking

What a lovely restaurant. We went for Sunday Brunch (which features bottomless mimosas) and were completely delighted with our experience. The Eggs Benedict were perfect ! The Lobster Ravioli was in a lovely lemon cream sauce that I could have eaten with a spoon if it wasn't so rich. The pianist on the Baby Grand just added to the overall ambience we were seeking on Sunday Morning. We will definitely return - many times.
Pros: Lovely and Elegant Ambience
Cons: Limited Parking
