Great Food, Friendly Service. I eat at Kebab Gyros two or three times a week and have never been dissappointed. The food is fresh and plentiful. The staff is always smiling and friendly and the prices are very reasonable. I have recommended this place to several friends, all have been very happy with the food and the service. Very glad I found this wonderful family run restaurant!
Used to be great, now....
I was so glad I found this place when I moved to Donelson. Their Gyros were fantastic, not greasy, and flavorful. They drop the french fries when you order them, so they're always crispy and covered with seasoned salt. This was the perfect place to go for cravings and hangovers!
Lately though, their quality has gone down hill. The gyro meat is overly greasy, affecting the overall taste of the sandwich, not to mention that it's usually lukewarm. And the last time I was there, I had an extremely unsettling experience. As I was waiting to place my order, a gentleman walked in off the street. I had never seen him there before, and knew he wasn't a member of the family that owns the place. In fact, he often sits on a bucket in front of the sign for the stores in the strip. He came around back to pick up his lunch behind the counter and to hang out. After I ordered my usual (combo with fries), the guy working the counter turns to the stranger and says, order of fries please. The man, without washing his hands and coming from god knows where then proceeds to make my fries. No gloves, no hand washing, and touching the container, the fries, and parchment/wax paper with bare hands. I was disappointed, because despite the downward spiral of their Gyros, the fries still rocked. I had to throw them away when I got home as I couldn't get the image of him holding down the parchment/wax paper in the bowl while the fries cooked with his bare, unwashed hands.
This may make me overly picky, but I'd really rather not get sick..
After this, I will never be going there again, and will once again scout the surrounding area for a good Gyro fix.
Good food, great value. This is your basic hole-in the-wall kebab joint in a strip shopping center, so don't expect fancy decor or an extensive menu. However, the gyros are terrific and the family-run counter service is enjoyable. If you order a gyros, expect to be asked if you want it made with the "salad" and the "ranch dressing" and if you'd like "rice or fries" -- clearly they're not catering to Greek patrons here. The fries are pretty good, actually, but I usually opt for the rice with "ranch dressing." Prices are very reasonable and portions large -- I don't think they could cram anything more into that pita pocket!
