Had trouble with my speakers so took them into John to check out and finish the install. Had a Saturday appointment but my install kept getting interrupted from customers calling in and coming into the shop. Waited there 4 hours. About a week after the install I put the drivers side window down and heard a loud clunk. Took door panel off to see what happened and saw the window yanked the wiring connections off the speaker and was sitting at bottom of door cavity. In addition to finding John didn't replace all the screws that help the door panel in and other various things not attached in the door, he also never tucked the speaker wires so they would not get caught in window mechanisms. VERY poor worksmanship and care for your car!! Stay clear of this shop if you value your vehicle.
I had service done by John back in 2009 on my black Chrysler 300C. This was when he was at his old location, which I agree with another reviewer it wasn't the best part of town. It was actually hard to find and had to call him to get directions as my GPS kept me going in loops. Finally found it and I was still early for my appointment.
I was the first appointment of the day however when I got there, an early bird'er was there waiting. Unfortunately me being first in line even by an appointment that was done a week in advance held no priority. Also, this was when he was the only installer. He had a girl, can't recall her name, who was the shop manager. I assume she was responsible for stock, answering phone calls, checking people out, etc. John told me that she was going to be his apprentice for tinting but not sure where she is now. I digress. . .
My appointment was for 9AM, I left the place at 3PM. Yes, I was there FOREVER! However, it was worth it. When he was finished my car looked amazing! The tint I picked was a Silver Tint that was NOT legal. I forget the percentage but you couldn't see in from the outside. It was like looking into a mirror, you could shave your face by looking at the window. I could not thank him enough for his crafty work.
Regarding his work, he did take his time and educated me on the percentage of the tint. He also warned me, prior to putting the tint on, that this was illegal and I would be fully responsible for the outcome. Needless to say, I didn't care.
Unfortunately two years ago my car was flooded and was deemed a total loss. I will tell you that since day one, and till the end, the tint held up. No bubbles, cracking, breaking nothing. Even one week after my car was flooded sitting in the hot sun saying goodbye to it in the junkyard, the tint was still on there, flawless.
I replaced my old Chrysler 300C with an exact model and year and I have finally decided to get the same tint. I now live in Northern, VA and would not think twice about bypassing all the tint places here and between to see John again. However, I was surprised to see the negative reviews on this guy. I received an email from him indicating he was moving from his old location to a bigger location, which would indicate he was having at least some success to get out of his old location, which again, wasn't the best place.
I'm on the fence, now, on using John again. Yes, I didn't appreciate spending almost an entire work day there while he worked on my car. But again, it was worth the wait. The amount of compliments I had on my car coupled with the enjoyment of the beauty of my car was well worth it.
If you decide to go here, I would highly suggest you have John do the work. Again, not sure if John is still the only one doing the tint or if he has others. Also, unless things have changed and from my experience, drop your car off and do not wait.
Best of luck!
Stay away from this place like the plague. They recently offered a groupon for tinting but when I called to make the appointment they informed me that the groupon tinting was restricted 40% without disclosing it on the fine print (I wouldn't have bought it if I had known about the restriction). When I brought this to their attention over the phone they argued a bit but finally agreed to do the specific % I had wanted. I made the appointment for 9am.
On the day of the appointment I arrived exactly on time....but the owner (John?) was 30 mins late. Trying to keep positive, we exchanged pleasantries and started to discuss the tinting process. I finally brought up the % I had wanted and that's when things started down hill again.
They refused to do anything else besides 40% and then they offered to "upgrade" (+$100) for my choice of tint % and because the 40% was less "color stable" (CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH). I asked that he put the 40% restriction in writing so that I could return the groupon and he refused. Enforce an undisclosed restriction then not be honest enough to stand behind it by putting it in writing? Very very very shady.
So, not only was I lied to on the phone, but when asked to put the restriction in writing all he could say was "that's not how we do things".
Incompetence – Cheep prices, unprofessional conduct, and they are not people friendly.
Employees speak in an angry matter, and as they were installing my system there was two complaints.
they said that they have been doing this for seven years, Seven years and still can't do the job.
AWESOME STORE & SERVICE! – I first would like to say this is one cool place! I called these guys because I was have a problem with my old radio not playing cd's. They fix me up with a really nice JVC radio with the Satellite Radio Option. They did an AWESOME JOB! It look like it was made for the car! They even vacuum out my car when they where done! They also have a lifetime warranty on all the work they do, which is one of the reason I chose these guys! I also purchase my dad a remote starter for his birthday from them & again they did an awesome job! My dad couldn't be any happier!
Messed up installation............ – I will never go here again. I had to get a device installed on my car. I took it there and was there for a couple of hours (which is fine because I figured we would be there for awhile). We drove the car home and noticed the light for the traction control was on. I noticed that the car could be started without the device which is not suppose to. Then the device started to count back down in the negative after only a week. I called the company this installer is contracted through. They told me to fill out a customer complaint form which he does not have at his shop. He told me I needed to bring my car back and that it may cost money to fix. I refuse to pay extra money that if had been done right in the first place would cost no more. I called the company back that he is contracted through about my issue and the general manager called me back and told me that I didnt need to pay for anything because it was not my fault. I had my car fixed at another shop. I will never use this shop again considering the day I had it installed another person was there complaining about the same issue and his response was I don't do anything for free. Do it right in the first place and you wouldn't have to. I caution anyone who has to have a breathalizer device installed in there vehicle to go somewhere else. One more thing. The general manager called them and the installer told him they had no prior knowledge of my device working incorrectly which is false. I am completely and utterly surprised and appalled that a company acts like this:(
Poor Service – John called me very quickly. He got me in the next day and that is where the good service ended. I brought in a 2010 Equinox with less than 100 miles on it. I wanted a remote starter installed. It took them almost two hours to tell me that they needed another remote starter that was not yet out for the 2010 model. Why didn't they check that out beforehand rather than have me wait for almost two hours? Then when I finally went out to leave in my SUV, the battery light was blinking and the computer menu was locked up. I had to take the auto back to the dealership and rent an automobile because I had errands to run. I am now waiting to hear from the dealership what the problem is. I only know that it was alright before I took it to the Installation Doctor and now my NEW Equinox is getting checked out at the dealership.
Fast and Professional – I called and John fit me in that same day! The service was fast and professional. John was polite and personable. I can't say enough good things about my experience. The shop was nice and clean. I watched a flat screen tv while I waited to get my stereo put in. Will return any time I need something installed.
Great Service! – To everyone writing bad reviews, please remember that this is a small business. This is not a big box store where no body knows your name. John greets me with a smile and a handshake and always does an excellent job with my cars. I have always felt comfortable in his shop. My cars (BMW 740il and a classic Jaguar) always recieve top notch service. I have and will continue to recomend the Installation Doctor to my friends. Keep Up The Great Work John!
