The only restaurant I look forward to. Rafas is the only restaurant I look forward to when I visit Grand Island. It is the best independent restaurant in town. Its not fine dining, but if you want food thats freshly prepared this is your only choice in Grand Island.

No one among my gringo family enjoys this restaurant. They prefer Americanized Mexican food (stuff thats frozen, generic, food service fare thats greasy, salty, and what theyre used to).

About half of Rafas customers seem to be Nebraka natives who have better taste than my relatives. Im so happy they help to sustain the only remaining culinary gem of my hometown. The casual, friendly atmosphere is comfortable, even if youre like myself and cant find any Islanders to join you.

Try something new. If you havent heard of something, ask the staff for a description. Try the horchata, a cool, sweet rice and cinnamon drink.
