Tips for Ploy Thai

Save for Wat Mongkolratanaram's Sunday food fair, this is the most authentic Thai food in the Tampa/Brandon area that I've found. We have stopped eating Thai anywhere else (except on Sunday's of course), because the whole experience is really so pleasurable. The staff is genuinely very kind and friendly. The food is great, and a good value.

The outside of the strip mall hides a beautifully decorated interior. The original space is tastefully decorated floor to ceiling with elaborate wood work and Thai art. Recently they added a sushi bar, which I think detracts for the interior beauty. The sushi bar has a minimalist look, and the two spaces aren't blended cohesively. I'm not sure if the sushi is good or not, as I have not tried it yet.

Best Thai place in the area!. I've been to Ploy Thai many times and have loved it each time! The spring rolls are SO good and come with dipping sauces! The atmosphere of the restuarant is also really nice and unique. Plus the prices are pretty reasonable for thai food. Oh and the portions are very generous so come hungry!

FOOD WAS FANTASTIC. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally did. The place is beautiful and very clean. The service is wonderful. We went on a Saturday and they have the dinner menu and prices all day. The prices were very reasonable especially for the portions received. Presention of the food itself was so pretty you didnt want to touch it...but smelled sooo good I couldnt resist! I had the Shrimp with vegetables, my daughter had the Eggplant which she absolutly loved and my son had the Shrimp Pai Thai and he love it as well...Dinner was served with Soup and Jasmine Rice and all the right spices. I like it spicy and it was perfect. Free refills on the drinks you gotta love that! The portions were overflowing on the plate and we each had to take half of it home. I recommend this place and can't wait to go back!

YUCK!. We ordered the beef noodle soup and it was the most awful soup I have ever had! I eat a lot of Thai beef soup as well as Vietnamese Pho Bo (which is very similar). I always go to temple on Sunday and eat authentic Thai soup and this soup was NO comparison. I also have tried other Thai resturants and have NEVER had soup this BAD! First of all, there was no cilantro or milantro. There was no crushed red pepper, sriracha, jalapinos, fish sauce, or anything else to give it that full and nice flavor. They didn't drain the noodles well enough so they were soggy while sitting on top of the bean sprouts (usually the noodles are placed to the side of the been sprouts so that they are not mixing because the bean sprouts are rinsed in cold water). It was just terrible. I will NEVER go there ever again! Then, to make matter worse, the person who I spoke with about getting a refund was really not willing to refund the money back on this terrible soup. They then went on lying to me, telling me that they sell a lot of this soup and never, in 8 yrs. have they had a complaint on the taste...I find that hard to believe because ANY Thai or asian for that matter would know that that is NOT how the soup should taste. I am half asian and was raised on this type of food. They cannot fool me. If you want really good soup, either go to Saigon Corner (Vietnamese) or just wait until Sunday and go to temple (off of Palm River Rd. in Tampa). AVOID this place-they do NOT have good, authentic Thai soup!! The only people who can possibly think this place is good are the people who have never had REAL Thai food.

Ploy Thai does everything right. I've been going to Ploy Thai for about 2 years. It is the best thai food I have had anywhere, hands down. I used to get only Pad Thai, but have now tried almost everything on the menu. I figured that if the Pad Thai is so good, they must rock at other dishes. Fortunately, I was correct. All dishes arrive beautifully displayed, and delicious. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxed. While I have great difficulty naming ONE favorite dish, I can name my favorites: Pad Thai, Green Curry, Rama garden, Panang Curry, Fried Eggplant with green curry sauce and vegetables, Talay Thai, and Emerald Shrimp. Even when we get carry-out, the foods are pretty.

A great little restaurant. My husband and I have a great experience every time we eat at Ploy Thai. The woman are dressed very authenic in costumes, and the food is fabulous for a very resonable price. We eat there almost every weekend because it's a very romantic place with the music, flowers, and the whole atmosphere is wonderful. They always present their food with a beautiful flower on the plate, as well as having delicious coarses and deserts. We love it!
