Awful New Owners. Have been going here for years. Went in and there were new owners. RUDE! Complained I had a coupon, laughed when I asked for utensils (I have fibromyalgia) never got them.

Heard them tell someone with a coupon to go home and find one that had not expired- it expired the day prior. Then laughed at them and gossiped about them to other customers.

Food was not as good as before. Will never go back!

Excellent Sushi, great service. we love this place. i've lived nearby for 7 years, and their food & service only gets better. They frequently publish coupons in the valupak ... keep your eyes open for these. Great sushi, great service.

Best sushi in town. We have been eating here for 2 1/2 years now and the consistency of quality sushi and wonderful service remains! The people know us and greet us (and our young children) enthusiastically when we dine, and the chefs always remember our favorite sushi. This place is a "must dine" place! I highly recommend attending their customer appreciation night that they hold once a year. It is the most amazing sushi extravaganza you will ever enjoy!

Best Value in the Area. Not only is the food outstanding, but the service is so nice. We came once a half hour before opening and they let us in, brought us water and made our lunch to go with a smile. Love that!

Simply Amazing!. I've been eating sushi for over 25 years and have known Ray-san since he was at the old (vs. new) Shige. Ever since we discovered Akebono, it is our restaurant of choice! Everything there is top-notch and "chef's choice" is definitely the way to go. For the purists, the nigiri is amply portioned and has amazing flavor. Definitely a two-bite endeavor! For the more "westernized" palate, the specialty rolls, like the "deep-fried California roll" and the namesake "Akebono roll", are a sensory delight!

It is quite open and airy. The decor is bright, sleek, and and very Japanese. They even have a genuine bonsai tree at the sushi bar!

It can get very busy on the weekends (go early), but there is plenty of sushi bar space (and conventional table space) and there is usually at least two chefs (Ray-san plus others) on duty. Visit often and be adventurous!

Great Quality Sushi. This is one of the best kept secrets around the Sacramento area for Sushi. It's a great place that's sort of hidden. Inside the restaurant is very open and bright. The sushi here is the freshest in town and is of the best quality. I highly reccomend this place. The sushi chef used to work at one old original great sushi places (Shige) in Sacramento, which has since been sold. He is very friendly. The best thing to do is order chef's choice, meaning you let him choose. This way you get the best of what is available! It's a great place to drink sake too!

Top Quality Real Japanese Sushi. It is too bad that most people providing comments and rating the Sushi Resturants are unfamilar with real Japanese Sushi knowing only the numberous gimiick rolls which have been developed in this country and are unheard of in Japan. Having lived over 30 years in Japan and being a Gormet Chef myself, I consider myself an expert on JAPANESE CUISINE. I can say without reservation that Akebono serves the best sushi in the entire Sacramento Area. If fact, the quality of the sushi served at Akebono's exceeds that of many fine Susi Resturants in Japan. They buy only the top grade and freshest fish available - much flown directly from Japan. Although the Cooked Menu at Akebono is rather small, the quality is excellent. Akebono should be rated as the Nr 1 Sushi Resturant in the Sacramento Area.
