not a dance club. If you're looking to just hang out, this is a great place. But I went because other reviews and photographs on their website showed and talked about a dance floor with a free cover charge. Well, I should have paid attention to the age of those reviews. As of November 2011, there is no dance floor, and Play next door only plays techno/house mixes of every song, so everything sounds like one long monotonous song. I'd hoped for a fun night out dancing, but neither of these places provided that.

great place for a ok time. Tribe has really changed since i last been there. it is really peaceful. Not Peaceful like an old age home like the the trax,but just a get away from the drama filled bubble gum babies next door. The bartenders are nice and the people whom go there are just all trying to have a good time. Furthermore, wednesday is dollar wells,so it very inexspensive to get a good buzz.However, wear good shoes cause u will be standing at the bar for a while waiting for your drinks.But I warn you to not order from that blond bartender,I order a blue valium and he poured a glass of water and put some blue food colouring in it. Least thats what it tasted like.

Great Atmosphere, Great People. This is by far one of my favorite places in Nashville. It is a "gay bar" but that doesn't mean that you have to be gay to go in and enjoy yourself. It is very casual, yet quite upscale at the same time. Even the smokers are not relegated to freezing in some outside corner. The staff is very good (Brandon is a great waiter) and the drinks are great (check out TJ, he makes some of the best!). I highly recommend Tribe for meeting some people and having a good evening out.

Could Be Much More. I don't normally do the bar/club scene but I was in town for the night and thought what the hell...the weather was nice and it was within walking distance (for me)...

Tribe is a nicely decorated place and best of all it was NON-SMOKING...something I surely wasn't expecting at a gay bar...

However...I didn't find the bartenders or crowd all that friendly...outside of the nasty old man that followed me into the restroom...I don't expect bartenders to fawn over customers, but it wasn't crowded and I was basically ignored for 5-10 minutes before I was asked what I would like to drink...

The music was way too loud for the number of people in the bar and I didn't recognize any of the videos or music outside of "like a virgin" and that spectacle of Britney Spears on that recent awards show...but then again, I don't go to bars, nor do I listen to pop/hip-hop/rap music...

All in all...on my next visit to Nashville, if I go out...it won't be to this establishment.

YUCK!. This place is totally gay! Theres much better bars on Broadway & 2nd st. With normal people. This place is good `because it keeps the gay out of the good bars! Thanks Tribe!

drop the "straight friendly"...not so much.. I've been to Tribe several times and usually have a decent time. I enjoy the music and video screens, but the bartenders need to be more attentive, especailly towards their straight clientele. On a Saturday night, when it is crowded, I waited more than 20 minutes to buy a round of drinks. The problem wasn't the crowd, but the male bartender that was fraternizing with all of the other guys around him...giving out his number, hugging across the bar. I use to tend bar and know how to work the money, but straight people do tip, too...but not when they are ignored. He could have at least acknoledged me and told me to hold on. When i questioned the shirtless man, he got attitude with me and blew me off, refusing to serve me. My friend then went to the other side of the bar, with her credit card in hand and got the same unfriendly, unprofesh reception from the female bartender. She had to repeat the order, then told my friend to be ready next time. As a bartender, if you can't remember the order, write it down or ask for help. As a customer, I've never been treated so poorly. I doubt I will ever go back to Tribe again, after the coldness. They should consider dropping the "straight friendly." It's quite decieving.

Management not socially conscience. The management of Tribe (and Play dance bar) will not allow non-profit organizations to distribute or supply condums to their patrons. Condums are not allowed to be placed in the restrooms, and management will not allow non-profits to setup tables to distribute information. The only non-profit they allow on their property is the Human Rights Campaign, but only for their "HRC Post Office Party", and that is strictly because the event actually brings money in for the bar itself.

Standard cruise and booze joint. Sophisticated? Well...

I suppose this bar might look something like the photograph, although I could hardly see anything through the thick cloud of smoke that permeated every square inch of this establishment. I visited Tribe with a business associate after being assured it was a "sophisticated" and "upscale" establishment. "Very New York, very L.A." I was told.

Granted, there are bars similar to Tribe in New York and Los Angeles. Like Tribe, these bars are located in bad parts of town near adult video stores and liquor stores. Like Tribe, there's plenty of cruising, drinking, shirtless bartenders, loud music and smoking.

Within minutes of taking a seat and ordering a martini with my associate, a bartender delivered a folded note from a nearby pair of giggling, elderly men who were clearly intoxicated. The note, of course, was an sexual invitation. Great. Our cocktail waitress was a skeletal, forty-something blonde wearing some manner of a bra or bikini top. She seemed to be having a bad night, judging by her aggressive service and angry banter with a fellow, shirtless server. Video screens blared everything from Cher the Village People to Saturday Night Live clips. People howled and laughed and shouted back and forth as if they were in a rowdy sports bar.

If you're looking for a loud, smoke-filled, cruisey, alcohol-soaked gay bar, then this is your place. Don't be fooled, as I was, into thinking it is anything more than that.

Fun and Lively. Very straight-friendly. I have been to Tribe with my girlfriend a few times and we have always had a great time. We have order from the restaurant "RED" and the food was fabulous. My g/f had the chocolate martini and it was done right. Not your typical 'bar scene' even though there were those that were there for the pick-up as well. I have never felt uncomfortable there.

A huge, rectangular bar is the centerpiece for this stylishly appointed venue, an instant hit with both the alternative-lifestyle set and trendy professionals. Large monitors pump a steady rotation of Madonna, Kylie and other pop divas, though at a volume that promotes conversation. The second level, filled with couches and cocktail tables, affords a secluded mingling spot. A roomy, upscale and largely soundproof restaurant resides off the small cement dance floor, behind big black doors.
