Unfriendly, Overcharged and Horrible Food - GLBT Unfriendly
by cherylreneelong
This was not my first visit to this restaurant but it sure will be my last. I ate a cup of soup served barely warm, found the crayfish salad inedible. I returned it graciously and received a bill for $10.00 for the cup of soup. Both my husband and I felt unwell from the food. We were there with a group and we are part of the GLBT Community. I feel that we received blatant discrimination.
- Pros: Very interesting decor, casual booths, good music
- Cons: Really horrible food. We were blatantly overcharged. Are you from the GLBT community? I feel we received blatant discrimination.
Great meals and ambiance for an intimate evening, food to go and everything in between!

When this place was originally From the Bayou, it was good but after a while it went downhill and I promised myself that after the low quality of food and lack of good service I would never return. I later heard the restaurant is now owned by new owners and is called Jambalaya. We stopped by for dinner and it was great! The food was wonderful, the service excellent and what a surprise it was when the owners came out to our table to see how we were doing and if we were enjoying our food. I explained to the owners (3 sisters who live locally and own a catering company also) my previous experience with From the Bayou and they told me that even though they have changed some of the staff and recipes, the classics (like the jalapeno mini muffins, gumbo, jambalaya and etouffee) would stay on the menu. The new chef has added to the menu with a stuffed chicken that is to die for and a shrimp fettuccini that is definitely not your average Olive Garden recipe. As for my meal, I decided to order the chicken and sausage Jambalaya and was pleasantly surprised to find that this recipe was a wonderful blend of veggies, meat and rice, though it was on the spicy side. Since that day, I have been a fairly regular customer visiting about once a month. They have live Jazz and Blues on Friday and Saturday nights. The interior has undergone a change with the main dining room being covered in old jazz, blues and some funk records on the ceilings and hand painted murals along the wall. ?The cross room? is still present in the second dining room, along with a secluded green room and a Mardi Gras room decorated with masks and beads.
They are open for lunch if you don?t want to go in the evening when it is a little busier. I recommend making reservations for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights though because the bands usually attract a lot of people.
I recommend this restaurant for anyone whether they are on a intimate date or on the run back to work during the day.
- Pros: Declicious food, Great servers, Beautiful decor and great ambiance, Good music (especially on the weekend) and cleanliness
- Cons: Parking (Occasionally)

Far and above this is the worst attempt at Louisianian food I have ever had. The catfish is a disgrace, it isn't close to fresh and tasted like it has been frozen for ages. The "house wine" was in reality a KJ Chard. so you can imagine my reaction there. The gumbo was woefully lacking any actual shrimp and there were 6 bay leaves in mine....
This place has deteriorated quite a bit. When they first opened it seemed like they had a lot of potential -- there were no other places like it. But it has failed to this day to live up to its menu. Pass it by.
- Pros: Close to PLU
- Cons: Close to PLU
