Best steak in the burbs - Great choices of beers. Make sure you try the caviar potato chips appetizer; it is amazing. Such a great place all around! We love Tavern.
Fantastic Private Party. Talk about a great place to dine at, Tavern is the destination spot in the Chicago Land Suburbs you most definitely want to get to by train, plane or automobile. The Metra Milwaukee District North Line comes out of Union Station and stops right in Libertyville, one block from the restaurant. If you?re in the suburbs already, that?s wonderful, jump on your motor cycle or climb into your car and get on over to Beautiful Historic Downtown Libertyville and believe me, you?ll be treated by a real gem of a place. As you walk into the door, you will know you?re in a very special place; from the antique wall paper and gas lamp fixtures to the Brunswick bar that greets you. The Tavern will delight your senses, with the smell of awesome food in the air, and a decor that is so warm it immediately relaxes you. Ask for the Wine List and you will begin to know why you have made the trip, with over 700 bottles the list has won several Wine Spectator Awards. As for service, it's easy to see the entire staff really enjoys what they do; they work very hard to accommodate their clientele. We were invited there on a Saturday evening for a Surprise Birthday Party. I can say with certainty, if you are searching for the perfect location for a large group Hors d? oeuvre reception; then look no further. Their upper level serves Private Parties for all occasions. The food was outstanding and the service was well above average, with the staff being very attentive to all the guests needs. It?s been weeks, and we?re still raving about The Tavern.
Love the Tavern!. The Tavern is absolutely the best place for steaks, wine and service anywhere around. A charming, relaxed atmosphere makes this place one of a kind. Also check out the private dining area for business or larger social functions.
Love the Tavern. The Tavern is just great all around - from the food, to the wine, to the service, to the decor (I especially love the vintage wallpaper and artwork). Try the caviar potato chips - amazing! Ask your server for advice about wine pairings.
Best steaks anywhere around. First time diners and what a wonderful experience! Great atmosphere! Outstanding wine list! Terrific steaks! Looking forward to our next visit.
Poor service, very noisy, average food.
We had a problem with excessive noise from people drinking excessively at a table near us. The staff there would not address it. Part of the problem was we didn't get very good service from our wait person.
They seemed to be spending a great deal of time servicing the table causing the problem. I suppose they may have been counting on a very good tip from them. I talked to the owner Rick a few days later; he wasn't there at the time. He would not accept responsibility for his staff. I had the New York Strip and it was actually pretty good while far from the best I've ever had. I would never go back to this place.
Great steaks, great atmosphere.
My husband and I dined at the Tavern over the weekend and we will definately be back soon! They offered not only a great variety of Prime steaks, but also a wide selection of fresh fish and many seasonal items as well (wild Copper River salmon and Maryland soft shell crabs to name a few!). The wine list is spectacular (both bottle and glass) and we were given great suggestions by our server.
Not only was the food and service great, but the dining room and decor of the Tavern is so unique; unlike anything else you'll find in the suburbs. We had a great romantic evening and can't wait to go back.
Also, check out the upstairs dining room for private parties...gorgeous!
DISAPPOINTED. May 11 had reservations seated party of 4 cramped tiny table next to where bread was being kept warm. Place was over half empty and this is the table we were seated at with reservations. Table so small/cramped Server was terrible, was told never been here before but recommended from WTTW Check Please, her response was "everything is alacart" This was obvios from the menue, not the answer /explanation I was expecting. Was offered warmed bread 3 choices 3"x4" 1/2" thick slice 1 piece placed on plate, was very good, had to work hard to get another piece. Steaks came were very good. Terrible experience for the money spent, We will never return
This place is right on Milwaukee Avenue and has parking and access in the back of the building off the busy street...its two stories and has a cozy bar where you can sit waiting for a table if its busy...
We had a reservation and were seated right away...on a Saturday night it was crowded but not loud or bustling...the wait staff was a lil young and experienced but not enough to make it unpleasant just a lil amusing...I had the Bone-In Ribeye which was superb and I highly recommend though my wife had the Delmonico which was very good as well...they have this Japanese Beef which is on the menu and looks tasty but we decided to go "american." Maybe next time we will be a lil more exotic...
Libertyville steakhouse entices with New American fare, steaks, a great wine list and TLC..
Wonderfully eclectic decor of reclaimed wood, architectural artifacts, Asian paper lanterns and funky art comes together in an upscale-chic whole. Warmth and personality abound in the atmosphere, presentation, wine list and (usually) the service.
Chef-partner Rick Jansen's New American cuisine is both creative and comforting. His crisp kettle-style potato chips are slathered with creme fraiche and three caviars (chile, wasabi and ginger) for a lavish yet unpretentious beginning. Steamed Prince Edward Island mussels are bathed in a creamy lemon-chive butter that inspires sopping with crusty bread. Sweet, meaty seared scallops pair exquisitely well with rich lobster mayonnaise. A separate steak menu offers both Choice and Prime cuts; the addictive secret herb-spice rub with savory tamarind-Dijon butter results in a divine steak to rival any downtown steakhouse. Desserts don't live up to the cuisine, but chocolate Chambord cake will satisfy the chocoholic.
