Great Food, Wonderful Service. My fiancee and i had a wonderful experience at Carlos's. We live in La Grange, il, and had to make quite a journey to get there... but it was worth it.

Hey, guys come to La Grange. We were voted best downtown by chicago magazine, and we are a community of restaurant lovers! We would welcome you, support, and embrace you!

Terrific and Friendly Service. We ate at Carlos on Halloween night. Our first impression was the bowl of candy and Carlos and all the wait staff taking time to talk to the neighborhood kids while they came in trick or treating from the Highland Park neighborhood. At first that seemed strange for a fancy French restaurant but by the end of the evening we realized it was just how Carlos is. They pay great attention to service and detail and the room is beautiful but you are treated like a guest in a home of an old friend.

The food is very high quality and the preparation is solid. Not over the top French...just lots of layers and fresh clean flavors We had filet and sea bass. Both were great. The souffle and molten cake desserts were a highlight. Huge wine list and high end wines by the glass too. A really fun and romantic meal!

Carlos' Restaurant is the best. Hy, I've been to Carlos a couple of days ago and I can tell you it's a great restaurant. The service is really great and I can't tell you about the food there; really awesome. Everyone should try it some times.

Best regards,

Rick Menchaca

First-class French dining has an intimate and beloved home on the North Shore.. The Scene
Like an elegant dining room in a private home, Carlos' is intimate, relaxing and warm, with art-deco touches and whimsical French-themed paintings. Owner Carlos Nieto (with wife, Debbie) is ever-present and ever-ready to assist staff or chat with diners. The couple's generosity and attention to detail has made this a favorite special-occasion spot for more than 15 years.

The Food
Choose from a degustation menu ($90, $130 with wine) or go a la carte. For starters, a trio of foie gras, tiny crepe and stuffed brioche lies delicately along a glass rectangular plate. Swimming in roquefort Pernod cream sauce, escargots are heavenly. Softshell crab is oily, but still a winner. Entrees are presented under silver domes with a dramatic, "One, two, three, voila." John Dory (a mild fish found in Europe) with "scales" of crispy potatoes and sun-dried tomato risotto is outstanding. Veal loin and sweetbread combination appears complicated, but is a delicious success. The filet is sweet, tender and out of this world. For dessert, pre-order a soufflé or the chocolate pyramid.

First class dining experience. This was our third time to Carlos in the last two years and it is better everytime we go. The menu was seasonly different each visit including items I havent even heard of before but left me wanting more of all of it. The lamb was to die for and I have never seen a wine list even close to as good. I didnt even know service could be taken to this level. If you use the washroom you come back to a creativly tied napkin in the shapes of roses, ducks and even a tuxedo once. Carlos is always there to greet you, make you feel welcome and monitor the quality of your entire dining experience. We definatly cant affor to go there all the time but every very special occasion you will find me and my family there. Look forward to going back!

WOW!. I have been to Carlos three times this year and every time I have had the best service and food. The biggest thing I like here is that you feel welcome, the staff smile, anticipate your needs and are very attentive. The food is incredible and Carlos walked table to table throughout the evening checking quality and if the people were happy. A wonderful romantic evening every time.

chef ramiro is the best in the city. As always the dinner there was beyond perfect. The chef has a very romantic style. He has learned a lot from the former chefs, but made it his own.

not worth the time. I have been to Carlos' on a few occassions now and have been dissappointed everytime. The service is mediocre, the food--subpar, and the atmosphere--let's just say get rid of the loveboat theme. Go to Gabriel's instead--you'll thank me.
