The Scene
Well-heeled locals flock to this sedate spot in Barrington's tony Foundry Shopping Center, where sunny yellow walls, plaid and floral fabrics, a cozy bar and outdoor cafe set an appetizing, provincial mood.
The Food
Hearty, value-priced French bistro fare is laced with contemporary American accents, allowing a menu range from classic steak frites to a lightly baked crab cake with green gazpacho sauce and sesame cracker. Daily specials are extensive, and the kitchen makes optimal use of seasonal ingredients. While a starter of underseasoned French onion soup might not be the most auspicious beginning, all is quickly forgiven thanks to beautifully seared, plump sea scallops atop earthy wild mushrooms followed by intensely flavorful, fall-off-the-bone osso bucco with creamy garlic mashed potatoes. Other standout plates include a tangy, juicy steak frites; perfectly crisp-tender haricots verts; and the tallest, fluffiest of Grand Marnier souffles with creme anglaise (available Sunday, Monday and Tuesday only).

Barrington Bistro is a nice casual/formal restaurant with great ambience and service. The food is very good, especially the seafood and the steaks. The appetizers could have been little bigger portions but they are exceptional. Try the foie gras and the shrimp. The wine list was not too great and the one we chose was too young and dry. Overall the food, ambience and service is highly recommended. Its expensive so reseve it for a good date.

Great country French ambience inside and out. Friendly staff, good service. Every dish ordered at our table of 5 was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Entrees range on average from 15.00 to 30.00. Soups, salads and desserts are about 7.00 each. I would expect to pay twice that in downtown Chicago for this quality.

The Barrington Bistro is one of the most under rated bistro's in the Chicagoland area. I do have my favorite dishes but everything I have tried their has been excellent. The Excutive Chef, Nadia Tilkian does a marvilous job with the presentation. Most main entrees are around $15 with fair protions. The wait staff is very good and has a very friendly atmosphere. I highly reccomend this resteraunt as a must visit.
