New Owners, Same Great Food.
I recently ate at Pompeii for the first time in months, and loved this place growing up as a kid. I was good friends with the previous owner Nick, and we shared our share of laughs together. He was
the perfect owner, always entertaining his guests, and treating them like family.
The ownership then got handed over to another couple who hoped to carry on Nick's legacy. I was a bit skeptic at first looking at the menu to find it more "Americanized" than before, but the taste was just the same as when I first came in as a child. You will not find a better gnocchi and marinara sauce outside of Italy itself. Even the price for such Italian food seems reasonable.
Pros: food, price, service…
Charming dining, great food and a real treat!.
The first thing you notice about Pompeii is how unlikely its location is: a nondescript strip mall. Don't let that stop you from enjoying this gem of a restaurant. The owner, Nick L. is funny,
gracious, exuberant and entertaining. He's also been in the business long enough to know when to amuse you and when to leave you alone.
Then there's the food--both northern and southern are equally represented and are brilliantly prepared. This is down-home cooking at its finest. Lots of specials, a fine wine list and reasonable prices make Pompeii the type of restaurant that is rapidly disappearing: Unpretentious, inviting and soul satisfying. Bravo, Pompeii!…
diamondintherough. WOW! Talk about a hidden gem. This place is located in a strip mall and looks ok from the outside, but don't be fooled. The food is top-shelf. I would put it up against most of the italian joints in ALL OF CHICAGO. Authentic recipes straight from Naples. And the pizza... probably some of the best I ever had (and folks, I love great food). All of this plus the entertainment of the owner. This guy has personality and will usual come up to the table to chat. I'm almost tempted to say its location is a drawback but you know, its not. I love those gems that most don't know about. Head over there immediately!!!…
