HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE

My daughter had her 2nd child at the birthplace in Salem Massachusetts in late March of 2009. Her entire stay she felt rushed, neglected and like a nuisance. I got a phone call from her in the very early morning hours asking me to come pick her & my grandson up to go home. I did just that. She was released early, thank goodness. I can understand the stress the nurse's have but in my opinion if they didnt want to be nurses they should have chosen a different profession. We all lead stressful lives & have hard jobs not just nurse's. My daughter lost her first baby when she was 14 weeks old. This was suppose to be a joyous time in our lives. It was not thanks to the rude staff at the birthplace.

Before you go judging my daughter is 31 years old, married to a United States Marine (who was in Iraq at the time of the babys birth) , she works & helps care for her elderly Aunt! She also lives in Lynn, which I sense was a problem with the staff there.

By the way her health insurance was not welfare. So before these nurses & staff on their high horses go making accusations I thought Id put it here.

Shame on salem hospital!!!!

DONT HAVE YOUR BABY THERE PLEASE LADIES

Ladies don't have your babies at The Birthplace.

The nurses were cold, bothered by us and had no bedside manner. The labor & delivery nurse went about the room doing her business even as I had huge painful contractions. I had to use my own diapers ask for bottles for my newborn. I was provided four 2 oz bottles and when that ran out it seemed like a bother for them to get me more.. even when I asked they gave me JUST ONE 2 oz bottle. There was no soap in the shower, no towels in the bathroom. I ran out of toilet paper and people were in and out of my room the entire time. The staff there is miserable, unhappy, unpleasant, cold, mean and have no bed side manner at all. Even the epidural they gave me didn't work and they had to reinsert it. I was made to get up on my feet only 1 hour after giving birth. I was made to urinate and quickly rushed into a room. They wouldn't let me rest by giving me a few hours of sleep. They didn't want to take the baby into the nursery, not even in the middle of the night. It was a horrible horrible place and it wasn't exactly that clean either.

What should have been the happiest place in the hospital emloyed the most miserable people I've come in contact with in a long time. Save yourself the horrible expierence and go with a hospital with a caring staff. You can't even get a ginger ale or coke at The Birthplace as they lock up refreshments from the patients.

Don't Have Your Babies Here

I had both of my children at the Birthplace at Salem Hospital and I am kicking myself for going back a second time.

During my 1st visit in 2003 the nurses were extremely and unnessarily rude. Well, my doctor broke my water to move my labor along (which made me highly suseptable to germs). Just after that, the hospital moved a woman with the flu into my room. She was getting a routine test and didn't need to be checked in, in my opinion. As a result my daughter and I both had a fever during my delivery. (You can say the two aren't related but after being in the room with her coughing all over the place, I don't have a doubt in my mind that they were) Also during my delivery the nurses told me to start pushing because my doctor would be right in. Well I ended up then trying to hold the baby in for 15 minutes because my doctor was with another patient. I blame the nursing staff for this error.

The reason why I talked myself into having my second daughter at Salem was because I really liked my doctors and my pediatrician. I figured what happened the first time was a fluke. My delivery went very well. The staff didn't move me out of the delivery room because there was no room ready for me. They also left the huge barrrel of medical waste, from the delivery, in the room. The nurses gave me an attitude when I asked for them to call the janitor and they didn't. Family and friends came to visit me in that room and all commented how gross it smelled and why was the barrel in there. It was seriously eight hours later when I finally got my room. Also I had an IV in my arm that was unnessacery. The nurses kept saying they would be back to take it out and that didn't get done until hours later when they moved me (by then I had a huge bruise). The whole time I felt like I was abandoned on an island. I left the next day even though I needed to be there resting another day. I could not get out the door fast enough.
