Fantastic food and ambiance

My fiance and I came here all three nights of our trip to Gloucester -- once just for drinks and twice for dinner. Our last night in town, the night after we got engaged, the bartender celebrated with us and the chef came out to speak to us, and they really made us feel special.

The ambiance is really great, with a low-lit dining room, nice decor, and a beautiful bar. The people are incredibly nice. And the chef is really talented; the food is DELICIOUS. We loved the tuna steak and the sirloin. Drinks are fun and tasty too. Really highly recommended.

Great food even better service!

The food at the Franklin is like no other in Gloucester. Its truley the only great restaurant in Gloucester and nearby that has the feel of class and the taste of excellence. The main dining room is small but with just enough of a feel for romance. The two bars both offer diner and make great drinks, every bartender there is wonderfully attentive. The food is wonderful and would suggest almost everything on the menu but my favorites are the Iceburg salad, Shrimp Scampi and the Steak Frites.

This restuarant is Highly Recommended.

High-End Food in Cape Ann

A nice addition to all the outdoorsy type restaurants in Gloucester, Franklin Cafe adds a touch of Boston to Cape Ann. A bit dark in the main dining room, the upstairs boasts a brighly lit room with a bar where you can eat. Food was really good: caesar salad was ok, the grilled calamari app served with white beans was tasty and big enough for a meal as was the tuna tartare. As entrees, the grilled tuna won hands down against a tasty (huge) piece of halibut. The grilled lobster got rave reviews as did the spicy shrimp served over pasta. Deserts looked great but we were full. Service was inattentive and a bit long.
