Save Yourself the Trouble & Use a Different Moving Co..
DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY! I used them to move in 2009 and at first I was pretty happy with them-- they showed up late but the move got done pretty fast and they assembled my bed. The final bill was more than what I was quoted but I paid it just glad to have the move behind me.
As I unpacked I soon realized that a bag of clothes and part of a shelf were missing.... easily totaling over $600! I quickly called the company who assured me they would check their trucks and were sure the items would turn up. Over 2 months later, nothing showed up and the managers were unresponsive to my phone calls.
When I got a lawyer involved and sent them a certified letter, I finally received a call back. After being extremely frustrated, we agreed on an amount (much less than what was lost) but at this point I just wanted to put the whole situation behind me.
FAST FORWARD 2 YEARS LATER and I STILL HAVE NOT been paid what was promised for my lost items!! I have faithfully been following up, only to receive rude and curt responses from management that they "don't have the money."
So unless you want to lose hundreds of dollars, be ignored, and be jerked around for 2 years over a few hundred dollars... DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY!
Horrible, Unprofessional, Disrespectful.
First, they didn't show up when they said they would.
Then they claimed they wouldn't refund our deposit--even though they never showed up. And they (even the Manager) were verbally abusive to my wife and to me.
Thank God another moving company was able to come that day (!) to rescue us.
Nick's Moving is Wonderful!!!.
At my son's recommendation I asked Nick's to move items from a condo in Arlington to a condo in Cambridge. The crew of Joe and Tim arrived in Arlington right on time, packed up things efficiently, carefully, and quickly, and unloaded in Cambridge with the same care and efficiency.
Joe and Tim's professionalism, courtesy, and skill represent Nick's very well. I will recommend you to friends, will use you for any future moves.
Hire Nicks!.
I can't say enough about Nick's moving! I've moved 7 out of the last 9 years. For the past 4 moves I've hired companies - started with Gentle Giant - who were good but very expensive, then Precision Moving for two moves who did a good job and were less expensive but took a little longer than i'd expect, and this last weekend I used Nick's. This was the biggest move - a full condo on the third floor, moving into a house with two sets of stairs, with the most breakable items I've had thus far, and the longest distance I've had to move things. 5 guys, 3 hours, and not a single item broken! They were professional, hustled, took great care with our items, and moved the most things in the least amount of time. It cost me the same amount that it cost to move a quarter of the things I moved with Gentle Giant.
I hope this is my last move but wanted to say THANK YOU!
Excellent & Professional Moving Company. I have used Nick's numerous times moving from different residences (i.e., condo (with and without elevator) & home) and they have done an excellent job each time. I would highly recommend them for any type of move. Most recently, they assisted with moving large furniture within our home and were great and eager to place the furniture perfectly.
A good deal.
We had Nick's move a couch from the 2nd floor--via hoisting through a window.
They were very professional and left everything the way it was when they came in. The were such a better deal than Titan.
We will definitely use them again in the future.
Second time I used Nick's.. When you're moving, you want to deal with movers who exude confidence without being abrupt or condescending. The scheduling staff and the moving staff from Nick's were personable and candid. The moving staff were polite, apologized for being late at the start, promised to make it up at the drop-off end. And they did. I've moved about 30 times (yes, I'm old) and Nick's movers are just about the best I have had.
Nick's Moving Co Is A Winner.
My experience with Nick's was great! I selected Nick's because my brother used them and had a great move. I believed my brother more than I believed the recent web reviews.
I moved from a studio apartment in East Somerville to a one bedroom apartment in West Somerville in December. I hate winter moves, and I especially hate December moves because it's hard to round-up friends to help. However, I pulled it off.
My East Somerville apartment was a shoebox--my furniture was jammed into that place. If you could fit a box in that apartment, there was a box. In short, my East Somerville apartment was small and nasty.
The crew was GREAT! Ben told me that my movers would be there at 9:00am, ready to work. Within 45 minutes, they had all the boxes loaded--they carried the boxes two and three at a time! They quickly removed my heavy oak book cases and my wardrobe in no time flat. They took apart my bed and moved that, too. They swept the junk that was under my bed into a pile in the corner, as instructed, so that I could deal with it later. They did everything right.
Fifteen minutes after I arrived (by bus) at the new place, they arrived and were busy moving my stuff in. I had post-it notes set-up in my new apartment, for where I wanted them to put my things. Everything was placed where I wanted it to go. The bed was set-up. The furniture arrived, none the worse for wear. They set-up my funky bed. I was moved in less than three hours--that was fast!
According to my movers, I had a lot to do with the fact that my move was fast and went way under budget. The first thing I did right was I spent the time to think through the process. I started planning the move when I was sure I was going to move, but I didn't know when. So, I had taken the time to go through my things and to throw out, sell or give away things I no longer wanted. I carefully packed my things, following the packing advise found on multiple web sites. ISecondly, I moved all my artwork, my china and other fragile or expensive items myself and I put them away. Thirdly, I pre-moved some of my clothes and set-up a basic kitchen. This made life much easier. Fourthly, I put post-it labels in the new place showing where I wanted items to go.
I did not experience any of the problems the other reviewers did with this company. I worked with my movers and I had a successful and reasonably stress free move.
BTW, a week after the move, I unpacked all but one box and gave away my used moving boxes.
Worst Company Ever - Just ask the Better Business Bureau. Do not use this company under any circumstances. They did my move in late August. Lets see, first they drove over my neighbors yard and proceeded to get in a verbal argument with said neighbors. Then they backed into the other neighbors car. Then they managed to scratch at least 5 pieces of furniture and tear open both arms of my brand new couch. After at least 7 phone calls with the manager Dave, he explained that they don't actually have any insurance and can't even cover the damage they caused. I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau which was unable to solicit a response from them after 2 attempts. Upon further research, i found at least 8 similiar unanswered complaints on the BBB site. Do yourself a favor and stay away!
Milk the hourly rate.
September 09 move
They price was okay, but more than I wanted to pay (and I booked them last minute, so I didn't have much of a choice).
Why did it take 5 guys to move a single womans apartment 3 miles 6.5 hrs? I was being charged an hourly rate and boy do they milk that. I had to run an errand and my roommates said that they were bringing up one couch cushion at a time and were hanging around joking and laughing among themselves. I really feel I was taken advantage of.
