This restaurant has it all; awesome food, great atmosphere and a wonderful location. It's in the parking lot of a large movie theater, so it's super easy to catch a movie after dinner. They also have a great patio outside where they do live music! Don't be afraid to try new things here. You won't regret it. I'm pretty much a steak and potatoes kind of person. But the food is so good here, never a disappointment, I'm not afraid to try new things! =)
Ballyhoos consistently delivers great food and great service. The specials are amazing and the sushi is always fresh. priced for every pocket..
I do not have enough positive things to say, the ambiance is extraordinary, hand painted murals on both sides of the Restaurant, boats hanging from ceiling, it's an amazing atmosphere that I could go on and on about.
I ordered Sushi, which was surprisingly amazing, the best I have had in Gainesville, and I have tried several other Sushi places, my husband ordered a burger topped with Fried Egg, Bacon, and was nestled in between layers of grilled cheese, this was the best burger he has had, and again, I would venture to say he is as close to a burger conneisseur as you could be!!!
The staff was pleasant, our waitress was talkative, but not overly, had a wonderful personality, demeanor and was quite knowledgeable of the menu and offered great suggestions!!!
This is a must try, Ballyhoo is a great place to relax, undwind, eat under a Tiki atmosphere while enjoying awesome people and awesome food!!!
Calamari was 5+, Bread and oil 4+, she crab soup 5, Ceaser salad 2. They changed their menu. We thought we'd probably not come back but the food quality and service are excellent. We'll be back. enjoy!
We ate here with friends. We ordered the table side guacamole. It was a little pricey, but it was very good. This place has a great sports theme/beach theme. They've got TVs everywhere, so you won't miss the game. We also ordered the build your own hamburgers. They were yummy! They've got a very extensive menu of appetizers, soups, sandwiches, seafood and various entrees. There was a lot to choose from. I thought the quality of the food, and the preparation were both excellent. Our server was very good, keeping our drinks refilled, and making the table side guacamole. We had a great time and would recommend this place to friends, and come again.
Many, many trips to Gainesville and never ate here till recently. the owner is on site to meet, greet.
Fresh grouper was some of the best. Something for everyone at table including one vegetarian.
Great desserts made to share.
Oysters, Crab Ragoons, Sea Bass, Shrimp, Vegetables, and many kisses in between.
Definitely the spot to eat at.
There is something for everyone (Wings, Sushi, Italian, Seafood, Steaks, Salads, Burgers, etc). They do a table-side guacamole that is phenomenal. And for dessert you have to try their table-side banana's foster. It is to die for. Both of these are made right at your table in front of you and served fresh. The service is impeccable. If your server is busy and your food is ready a different server will bring your food out to you so it does not sit in a window waiting. I had the blackened red-fish and scallops (daily special) and my husband had the rib-eye steak. Both were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Well worth the 1 hour drive from Crystal River.
Was in Gainesville for business, but wanted to go someplace that would make me feel like I was in FL having fun. This place was it!! Great thatched outside area w/ live music and the service was wonderful. The food = OUTSTANDING! Very, very good!!! Definitely recommend when visiting Gainesville!
My brother lives in Clearwater and I always worked my visits so I could go to Frenchy's for Blackened Grouper. The sad thing is that I drove past Ballyhoo's for years and never tried it.
I am not a fish person but nearly every Sunday I go to Ballyhoo for blackened Grouper. I get the sandwich and you get a good size piece of fish...I have had it with the mashed potatoes which are pretty good but the fries are REALLY good. I have NEVER had a bad experience. The wait staff are young and pleasant. A waitress told me that they get fish twice a week from Tampa and twice a week from Miami.
