Best in Greenwich – Guess steakwiz is one of those spoiled Greenwich people who feels he did not get enought attention. I will put this restaurant up against any of the top restaurants in the tri-state area including NYC as the proprietor was the originator of many 4 star restaurants in manhattan. As a matter of fact much of the staff that is here at POLPO which steakwiz accuses of being rude and oblivious, has followed the proprietor, Ron Rosa from NYC to the burbs of Greenwich. That spells loyalty and consistency!!
Don't even bother. – My fiancee and I went here after a pretty thorough review of the better restaurants in Greenwich. Upon sitting down, I couldn't wait to leave. The upstairs portion of the restaurant was empty, yet we get stuck at this tiny table next to the wine station. We placed an order for our drinks right away, and then it seems that we were forgotten after they came. The place wasn't even that crowded! The waiter put the chalkboard with the specials on the chair and explained them. After that, it was 20 minutes until we heard from him again, despite walking past our table empty handed a half dozen times.
The waiter finally came to take our order. He had this way about him like we were inconveniencing him. Although, I can't see why. We ordered top shelf drinks and were ready to order 2 of the better items off of the menu. I started with the lobster bisque and ordered the filet mignon in a whiskey sauce (1 of the specials) and my fiancee started with a bowl of the gazpacho and a chicken dish. The soups came out and I will say that the lobster bisque was good. However, the waiter took it from under me before I was even done with it! By the time, I could even get a word out, he vanished to the kitchen. My fiancee did enjoy her gazpacho and fortunately, she got to finish hers.
My fiancee's chicken dish was average at best. She got 2 thinly sliced pieces of chicken breast. My filet was a shock. It looked and tasted more like a salisbury steak than a filet mignon. I have no problem paying 38 dollars for a steak. However, you can come to expect a steak to have certain characteristics that this surely did not have. The tirimisu was average and by that time, I couldn't wait to pay the check and leave. I considered complaining about the rude service and the subpar meal, but I knew it wouldn't go anywhere. I figured, this was the place to say how it really is. All in all, I guess I'll just stick to NYC or Chicago for top notch steaks and service.
