The Scene – Like so many of the area's hotels, this property started life as a rooming house. In fact, it's one of the oldest hotels in town, and it accommodated Arthur Silsdorf before he became mayor of Ocean Beach for 22 years running. The glory days are long gone, and this is now a simple hotel with spartan accommodations. – – The Details – The 12 rooms are sparse, and it's just as well as chances are you'll spend the day at the beach. And you'll also want to stay out all night, since the music from the attached Housers Bar will keep you wide awake unless you have…

very basic - not worth 200 night!

by lula78

I stayed in this hotel June 2008. Fire island is amazing. I love ocean beach. I go there very often...even if you go for the day feels like you are on vacation. It's the best getaway form the city in summer.

There are very few hotel options. Houser rooms are very basic. no showers in the room. Definelty not worth 200/ night. But of you want to stay for a week in Ocean beach is still probably your best choice (Cleggs hotel is awful and PAlms is very expensive).

TO be honest I don't mind the simplicity of the accomodation...the problem at Houser is that the service is AWFUL...or I should say..the problem is that there's no service. They really don'r care..they just care about the restaurant "hidaways" wich is great. When we checked in and got to the room...we found dirty towels!! and the worst is that there's no one to complaint to!!!

  • Pros: location! Hideways restaurant
  • Cons: no showers in rooms. Price. Lack of service

Horrible hospitality, Sink in bedroom, Worse than dorm life, too expensive $200a night for a shack!

by HonestOpinion98

First off, we get to fire island and after spending alot of money on this shack, we walk into the room and the light doesn't work. The women gives us a light bulb and tells us to fix it ourselves. We were horrified by the fact that our sink was inside our room. For $200 a night, this was a waste of money. That was the first and last time I book a place that does not have a website with no pictures of the place. The owners do not care because of the amount of people who come to spend the weekend in Fire Island. Their bar is a great place to party and socialize. However, spend your $200 elsewhere.
