Atmosphere rules at this French New Orleans-themed spot that serves traditional American fare. – In Short
Decorated like a French country bistro with jazzy New Orleans overtones, Mimi's Café was named after a lost love of Arthur Simms, who started the restaurant in 1978 in Anaheim, Calif., with his family. The ambience could only be upstaged by the menu filled with traditional American favorites. Breakfast includes omelets, waffles, muffins and fresh-squeezed juices, while lunch and dinner feature comfort-food classics like pot pie and pot roast, deli-style sandwiches, burgers, pastas, steaks and salads.
Mostly for the Seniors – Mimi's Cafe seems to be one of those restaurants that caters mostly to senior citizens....not that there's anything wrong with that. If that's your niche, go for it. But for the rest of us with less sensitive palates, the food here was pretty much average, being just a step above bland. Considering the fact that the food was somewhat overpriced, I had expected more.
The service is nice and helpful. The atmosphere again seems to cater to the elderly with 40's era jazz playing over the loudspeakers...again...not that there's anything wrong with that.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if this is a glimpse into my future as a gruff old curmudgeon, I guess I could do worse.
If you're under 60 and/or not afraid of spice, you could do better.
