Terrible food...waste of money – The "BBQ Baby Back Ribs" were a disaster. Instead of a tangy sauce it was overwhelmingly salty...so much so that I couldn't eat it. Scraping the sauce off the meat did not help as the meat was bland and flavorless like it had been boiled to death. The small amount I did eat made me feel ill.
We also tried the nut encrusted Ahi. Yuck! It was chewey and the favors were flat and unappetizing. When two entrees are bad that's a sign that there is something terribly wrong in the kitchen.
Some people seem to like it, which tells me they have a consistency and quality control problem. It's not worth the risk at these sky high prices.
On the plus side, the staff were very friendly.
Good food, nasty service – The servers here are pretty rude, but they can be because their place is pretty great. I hate talking with them. OC has a great atmosphere, right outside with open windoes, and good food. I like the burritos- big portions, pretty cheap. They also have a really great happy hour. Avoid the bathrooms, and try to avoid the servers if you can.
Well-prepared food – I had a positive experience here. I just had the toast and eggs. Usually I don't find toast particularly tasty, but the wheat toast did taste particularly good. The eggs were fluffy. I was seated promptly and the server took my order right away and was attentive. Also, along one end of the dining area, you have a view of Kuhio Hwy (Hwy 56).
Horrible customer service – My wife ordered the tropical salad. After taking three bites of it, she complained to the server that the salad tasted terrible. The server took the salad away and said she would speak to her manager about it. About ten minutes later, the server gave us a bill charging us for the inedible salad -- without offering a replacement.
We complained out server, but she just shrugged her shoulders and said the manager said that there was nothing she could do. A fair and adequate resolution would have been to either not charge us for the salad or give us the option of replacing the salad with another item.
I find it reprehensible that we were charged for a salad that we barely ate. That was a really crummy way to treat customers-- particularly for my wife who is five months pregnant and essentially left their establishment hungry. Olympic Cafe-- SHAME ON YOU.
