SCAM
by bob smith44 at Citysearch
Went there recommended by locals. The room was cold and gloomy. Wobbly tables. The waitress was very unfriendly. But what i do not accept is being served tilapia for grouper (supposedly fresh of the day). This is a scam. Some other restaurants in town actually propose the choice between Tilapia and grouper, at different prices. But here they lie to you. The glass of wine i ordered was pretty much vinegar.
Pauly's Cafe

My husband and I dine at Pauly's whenever we travel to St. Mary's. The restaurant sits in the midst of the historic district, across the street from the waterfront and the ferry to Cumberland Island.
The quality of food is great, and the prices (most meals under $10) make Pauly's a gret find. My favorite is the almond crusted grouper, and my husband absolutely loves the chicken marsala. If you are heading out to Cumberland Island, call ahead and have Eric, the owner and chef, put together some lunch boxes. The italian sandwich is a great choice and you will truly appreciate it while enjoying its flavors on the sandy beaches of the island.
Pauly's is truly a hidden gem in a small sleepy southern town. You won't want to miss out on your next trip to St. Marys.
Excellent Near-Waterfront Lunch Spot
by pallenbrown at Citysearch
Pauly's quaint little establishment just off the waterfront in historic Saint Marys, GA has a varied menu to suit all tastes. Don't look here for a charred burger or greasy fries - no sir! Pauly's uses some of the freshest ingredients I have ever encountered in a sit-down or take-out cafe.
Today I needed a quick bite to go, so I ordered their Mesquite Smoked Turkey croissant to go. The presentation inside the go-box was thoughtful, the croissant fresh baked and flaky, the avocado and sprouts fresh and delicious -but the real gem is the Red Potato Salad. This is not your usual sludge of mayo, mustard and pickles - but a delightful mixture of garlic, cilantro and tender new red potato chunks that nearly brought tears of joy to my eyes.
All in all, an excellent value for $7.35 (including tax). A quick call ahead can get your food prepared for pickup to enjoy a picnic lunch on the beautiful Saint Marys waterfront, and the service is quick and courteous. Highly Recommended.
- Pros: Near Waterfront, Great Service, Good Prices
- Cons: Small Dining area, Entrance is Obscure
