The first creative, upscale dining experience in Athens is a tradition and a must visit. Refined southern that cranks out some amazing fried green tomatoes, pecan crusted blue trout and braised pork belly!

LRG is one of those "Must Eat" at places in Athens. They're always busy & don't take reservations, but don't let that hinder you from coming. It's SO worth the wait! If you love pasta & seafood, I'd recommend the New Rockville Pasta and any of the Cecilia V's cakes for dessert (red velvet!)
Good, Crowded & Loud. On game day, there was not surprise that this popular place had a crowd of patrons waiting on a table outside. Fortunately, the weather suited the 30 minute wait for lunch. Once seated, our server was friendly and attentive, though despite our table being well placed, a group of very loud sorority girls near by made conversation a challenge. I enjoyed by south by southwest salad sprinkled with artichoke and banana peppers. The tangy dressing I opted for on the side was the perfect match. I would recommend dining here, though would advise visit at an off peak time and not on game day.
An outstanding menu draws students and parents alike..
In Short
Known amongst students as the place to take visiting parents, and known amidst the townie crowd as a place to get some serious grub at an amazing value, the Last Resort is located at a former music hall boasting early B-52’s shows. And honestly it's history matters little once the food arrives. The menu features Southern-twinged and slightly Mediterranean-influenced fare. Items such as the daily pasta special, crab cakes, and mega-cheap lunch options such as the Chipotle-Lime pork roll or Blow Oscar sandwich (named for a famous piece of folk art hometown hero R. A. Miller was famous for) please eager patrons every day. Expect a slight wait for this bustling bistro and be sure not to skip amazing dessert concoctions like white chocolate cheesecake made from a local pasty maven named Cecilia.
An Athen's culinary institution. The Last Resort has amazing small plates and entrees that can be shared between a couple or an entire group. Beautifully presented dishes that are bursting with multi dimensional flavors attract visitors and locals alike.
Always amazing food and service! Jaamy is the best. My husband and I are regulars. It's our favorite place for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Jaamy, one of the owners, is wonderful! He's always friendly and has a smile
Breakfast and Brunch With a Blazin' Bloody Mary. So I?m not much of a breakfast gal, but I love a good midday brunch with light food, friendly conversation, and most importantly, the best bloody mary in town. To satisfy this I really enjoy the Last Resort in downtown Athens. The food is superb! Crab cakes, burgers, steamed asparagus, fresh salads, and the best cheesecake ever are served in a cozy, often crowded set of dining rooms. Yet even when packed the aromas and genuine local feel of the place outweigh the volume or cramped seating. The prices aren?t for the poverty-stricken college kid, but if you love a spicy bloody mary packed with veggies and vodka, this is the place to visit. Parking, as with every downtown location, is generally available; but the beauty of downtown is that everywhere is within walking distance?at least a block or two. The quality of service varies so don?t go if your in a time crunch, but for a leisurely drink and small bite, try it?it?s the bloody best!
Horrible Service, beware!!!. As usual the food was superb, but unfortunately, Sunday night, the service was quite poor. Going for an early dinner, 5:00 o'clock, my family was seated immediately and our order taken. 40 minutes later, our appetizers had not arrived, not even any bread on the table. When food did appear, we were quite hungry and ate it quickly. Then, as we waited for entrees, we filled up with bread. Finally we asked for our entrees boxed - to go. The manager, "Jaamy", was quite rude. No one bothered to even say sorry, and when opening the "to go" boxes at home, it was obvious that the portions had been purposely reduced. I am very disappointed.
Crab cakes and a place to park. It can get crowded, so reservations are surly recommended. I ate at the bar. First off? The building and decor was very cozy and the atmosphere was rushed do to eating at the bar. It has an extensive wine list and friendly tender and waiters. I ordered the crab cakes to start and wow. The meat was not lumped, but it still was fabulous. They used a Romulade sauce with a dripping of some red pepper sauce which reminded me of Vietnamese red pepper sauce: very hot. After that, the house salad was bland, They should have used Arugula. For the main course, I had a salmon with a pineapple/mango garnish. It should have had more but it was still quite good. I finished it off with an espresso (I was cringing when he broke out the ?pod? but it was still acceptable). Try the crab cakes , you won?t be disappointed.
BEST IN TOWN!!!. This place ROCKS.. Their wait staff is always on top of things and the food is AWESOME! I go here AT LEAST once a week.
A++++. This is one of my favorite restaurants! Excellent food and service.
Dee_LIsh. During my various excursions to Athens, Ga., I often dine at the Last Resort Grill. It offers Southern nouveaux gourmet dishes at reasonable prices, mixed with a laid-back atmosphere. Recommended for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike
